local buck contest
This Hair may be thinning, but we still Grinning!
The weather was courteous enough to drizzle in between the rains on Saturday morning. Me and Cam parted ways at truck and headed for different stands picked mainly for comfort and cover than any inkling of what was about to occur. Despite the precipitation, I had already watched a small buck bump a doe.
Upon their departure I decided to try a dose of rattling. I can’t say for sure if the commotion drew him out of the creek bottom. But 15 minutes later I looked up and saw a Buck as long as a Cadillac with the BIGGEST set of antlers on a live deer i’m likely to ever see in south Alabama. He was moving left to right with head down. I tried to “meh” at him twice and then whistled. He never stopped. This coupled with the heart attack I was suffering from lead to a sub optimal shot. I knew he was hit and I knew he was hurt. With more rain pending The SOS calls went to out to Cam and Hunter. We used dogs, drones, planes, trains, and automobiles to aid in the recovery of this Giant. Little Fréda kept us on the track for three fourths of a mile. We followed four muddy little paws and at the conclusion we were finally rewarded with our Grip and Grin.
It is believed this buck was last seen nearly 12 months ago and there were no tales of sightings this season. It looks like those Forrester Farm peanuts added some mass to him over that time frame. A true trophy, I’m still not over it. Happy Hunting folks.

the closer i got to him the bigger he got which is a rare occurrence
brother rough scored him at 144 and change with Rackulator, not sure if accurate.
he’s headed to the taxidermist for a full sneak mount.

Looks like your brother was about right. Even with all the deer management going on, it’s hard to break 150” in the Deep South. Your buck is what most hunters day dream about. Beautiful buck.
