Looking to spend hopefully around $400 dollars. I will be mainly using it once the zombie apocalypse starts for silent but deadly killing.

Tread lightly Brad, this is a heavily anti-Xbow site.

Tell em it's a gift for your wheelchair bound WWII vet GreatGrandfather that has one arm, 104 years old, one eye and hates hogs.

You might get some Xbow sympathy.

In that price range, the Quad 400 is your best option IMO. my FIL has the Barnett Predator and it shoots very fast and very accurate. I think it's over $400 though.

You'll have to spend more than that to get a really good reliable one.

Cheap x-bows are prone to blowing up.

Recurve design xbows like Excalibur have few moving parts. Not likely to blow up.

I've heard Excalibur are by far the most reliable. An archery tech I know told me that they've sold hundreds and haven't had any back in for service.

PSE Tac 15 is ridiculously fast. If you have an AR-15 you can just buy the upper and use it on your AR lower.

My favorite memory of my crossbow was the moment I sold it. I had a really good one, and those dang bolts passed right through whatever I hit and disappeared. And if I missed, well, the bolts also disappeared never to be seen again...even in open grass.

The cost of the bolts about ran me broke.

Also note that crossbows are far more difficult to get through brush than a regular compound bow. (2 dimensional axis vs 1 dimensional axis).

Hated it.
