Going to grand isle for the weekend curious about wave height.

It has been a long time since we've been able to take the boat out. We have a cabin booked in grand isle for this weekend. It's saying the wave height should be between 1.5-2 feet every 6 seconds with winds in the 5-10mph range. It doesn't sound perfect but it's the lowest I have seen on a weekend in months. We have an xpress h22b so I'm think that we should be A-OK to run up and down the beaches for trout assuming they are correct on the expected wave height.
What do you guys think? Also what would yall consider acceptable range of conditions on a similarly sized boat? So I know what I should be looking for in the future for open water fishing since we mostly Marsh fish.

Yes it does. That’s about as good as it gets on the outside of any island. Good luck.

I kinda figured. On top of Saturday being a new moon, I think its about as good as we can expect. It's messed up though because on the week days I keep seeing 0.5-1 foot on 7-8 sec intervals. Unfortunately I have a 9-5 so I can't go fishing during the week lol....

As a bay boat single screw offshore fishing dude, my rule of thumb has always been double the forecast and ask myself if I'm confident getting back in that.
4's in a bay boat would be atrocious but I wouldn't die, so I'm going out this weekend.
2's in an express will make for a sporty ride but I've done significantly dumber before. Just have a plan B for when you get a half mile away from the pass and figure out it sucks alot worse than the weatherman said it would.

I’ve seen that forecast as well many times and played hookie to go fishing; only to find 3-4 foot seas constantly. I think the weatherman has a sick sense of humor who makes that forecast to set fishermen up for disappointment.

My brother from another mother.
It’ll be dead calm at your office and blowing 25 on the beach

I've been caught out in 2-3' breaking white caps in timbalier Bay in the same boat talk about pucker your a-hole. Was like 14 miles out from point aux chenes in the terrebone Bay area (lake felecity / lake tambour) when the forecast was glass like conditions with 3-5mph winds all day which it was when we launched, then we are out there fishing the outer marshes and oyster flats and the wind just starts ripping with no clouds in the sky. Jumps from like 5mph to 15-25mph and the white caps form, had to drive at like 24mph the whole way back while getting soaking wet from waves slamming the gunnels...

I feel ya on that. In my experience it's usually always a little worse than predicted, so might as well try on the calmest they predict lol.

Im rolling this weekend on an overnighter saturday out of venice single screw zuke 300. Forecast is calling for 2 to 4s with 6 second intervals and low wind forecasted. I think it is going to be mostly ground swells from tropical storm that will be relatively spaced out. If it was the usual 2 to 4 with 3 to 4 second intervals that is a calling for PAIN... We will see Saturday but it is looking very doable but will still be bumpy good luck fellas! If it is 3 to 5s we will stay at one of the closer floaters and grind it out..

Went out last Friday out of GI in our 26' about 30 miles and got beat up pretty good past 20 or so miles. Wasn't too bad from 20 miles to 10 miles and not bad at all within 10 miles. Period was short and it was 2-4s.

Goodluck with the forecast being correct.

Lol. I am well aware that it will probably be wrong. Unfortunately I can't see the future and the weatherman's guess is more right than my guess hahaha!

Its only correct when you can't go.

Trout are on the beach.
I'd take these conditions in a heartbeat, but the weatherman will probably be wrong and it will changed from tonight til Sat Morning. I'd go.
If the surf is rough, cat bay, 4 bayou pass, back sides of the islands have had trout, you just have to sort through a bunch of throw backs to find your keepers.

Where on the beach have y'all been fishing, just behind the barges?

You boys are brave in a single engine overnighter but I know they been mashing the tuna this past week so you should be successful

Haven't even bothered to go that far from where I was launching. Seriously, just go into about 6ft of water off the beach, cast to the beach, cast away from the beach. If you aren't boating trout in 5 minutes move along. They are everywhere. Problem with the rocks and barges is that every pile has 4 boats on it and well, the fish are all over the beach, not just on structure you can see.
If you hit 3 or more fishy looking spots, I am talking clean water, moving tide, baitfish present and good structure and not getting fish I would start wondering if you have a good presentation on your lures, or if you had a banana on the boat or something.

Been running single engine out of venice for long time. Have sea tow, delorme inreach. epirb, 2 vhf, ditch bag, kicker as well. We went was 2 to 4s as forecasted. Hit rip caught some nice mahi hit Medusa loaded with sharks....Too rough to head further south and didn't want to fight sharks all night so went inshore caught about 25 nice bliners and a stud almaco jack and called it. Tabs quit working which made it interesting coming back in but going to trouble shoot pretty sure blown fuse. Overall good trip and f this weather. Going stay close Wednesday and Thursday and overnight Friday. Weather has got to give soon lol...Cant catch em on the couch that's a fact!

Belle pass was damn nasty yesterday. We tried the beach a bit then decided to turn around. Had some baws in a skeeter bay boat blow by us southwest. Who was that? I know they post here.
