Incredible note from Gene to the family, in what seems like a totally different world. What those guys went thru will never be understood by future generations, not matter how hard we try to explain it. God bless them all. On both sides.

If you need help with any of the items you have check out https://www.usmilitariaforum.com. Probably the largest group of knowledgeable collectors out there.

No, in fact we are only just getting into his old foot locker for the first time last night. Known about his connection to Joe Lewis but no idea there was a signed photo (just found a thank you letter for the photograph too) and so much militaria in this chest. I'll post some more photos but its an entire career's worth of documents, from West Point until his retirement.

He died about a year or 2 before i was born, but according to my mom, he was a stone cold badass. He only stood about 5' 8", but those guys make us look like a bunch of weenies.

He was a career Calvary officer, from horses to mechanization, but mostly horses.

Didn't know he had a taste for scotch.

His father, Gen. B.A. Poore, was heavily involved in the Philippine campaign.

Several of these large Newsmap posters. I'm going to go broke having this stuff properly framed.

This is in amazing condition.

Thank you to Joe Lewis.

There was a DoH.

As a USMA West Point cadet, 3rd from left.

There is so much more and then there is the foot locker of my grandfather to go through. I'm sure like Robinson's, there will be much overlap with the previous generation or two.

BENJAMIN ANDREW POORE was born June 22, 1863, at Center, Alabama. His father, Andrew Poore, then sixty-nine years of age, was a veteran of the War of 1812, having served at Fort Warren in 1814. His grandfather's name appears on Revolutionary records. While he was still an infant, his mother died, and at the age of four "Benny" came with his sister to Fitchburg, Massachusetts, to be brought up by his half brother. Educated in the public schools, he went to high school the youngest in his class and graduated at sixteen.

Damn! He survived Guadalcanal and Bougainville.

All these are awesome! Keep them coming.

My mom showed me my great grandfathers discharge papers from the Army in WWI. He was a cook in the cavalry. Being a Marine I was slightly disappointed he was a cook (sarcasticly) but then I saw Horsemanship on the papers and "fair" was written underneath it. Ahhh, thats why they made him a cook, he was in the cavalry and couldn't ride a damn horse!

That is him indeed. Very few online sources have good pictures of the man. I now possess several so I guess I'll have to see if I can get some folks to do a little updating.

Admiral Byrd is someone of note in the history of military aviation. Did not know he had a personal tie to the family.

The writing says "I am signing this in Washington for I am on duty here in operations. I would like to have written you less formally. R.E.B."

Think he and Robinson might have shared similar sentiments about the Japs.

Hell, i think the word 'Japs' is probably racist these days.

I have seen Asian members of a golf forum quit the forum because of one use of that word.

More of Joe Lewis.

I guess I'd better find a wall for this too now.

And another wall for this. I haven't found anything close to it yet but I definitely know some of the documents I have touch on the later parts of the American Indian conflicts.
