Time for the folks to get a new vehicle. Dads turn to pick over mom. He wants a truck again. My dad is an old school SWLA Baw. Spending $20,000 for a truck is an abomination to him. He’s always been a GMC guy. This is the only thing in his price point.

Just wondered if any of you guys had experience with one. The truck, not a stubborn dad.

If he’s just gonna be going pulling the lawnmower and going to church and the grocery store I think it would be a fine truck.

Nope. But in true GM fashion there appears to be 15 damn packages. Lol. MSRP from $21k-45k.

Dad was looking low mileage used. But creep up to mid 20’s and he can have one new at a few places. My dad doesn’t care about any luxury or tech features. “V6 and not red or black” is about all he said.

Just bought my 90 yr old dad one.
He drives to the doctor, grocery store, and my house.
I figured I could always sell the truck and break even if something happens to my father or he stops driving.

In 4 months he put 1,212 miles on the truck.

2018 Chevy Colorado, White work truck ,4-door, 4cyl, auto, white, power windows, power locks, vinyl seats, vinyl floor, backup camera, and did have gm version of Ford sync.
Paid $21,995 after $2,000 non GM registered vehicle at the address the new truck was registered at.

Not a powerful vehicle.
It works fine for old guy that does not tow or haul a lot.
It gets him around and fairly comfortable.

Sounds good. It’s all my dad needs. He needs a 6cyl though. Why? He’s old. That’s why.

He will be closer to $24k after rebates if he qualifies for a 4-door.
We looked at used and they hold their value.
If you are willing to hunt around you might find a nice one with V6.

We looked in BR, Houma, New Orleans, Northshore, and the Lafayette area.

Looked at most dealers they had a handful not much selection.

When we looked Ray Chevy had a lot of Chevy Colorado’s compared to other dealers in the Lafayette area. They were sticking to their price at the time we looked.

Service Chevy had an aggressive salesman who really worked with us looking at all the rebates available.

Old check
GMC guy from SW LA check
Hardest time getting him out of his Sierra truck check
Salesman scared on test drives check check check

If you want a GM truck get a Sierra; I have one and love it.

If you want a mid-size truck get a Tacoma.

My Mom had an older small Ranger, and my stepDad had a 2500HD GMC, when he passed. Her Ranger had 200,000 miles, so we sold it. She was gonna drive the 2500HD.

She's only 5'4", and in her 70's.....she did fine going forward, but said it was too hard to see out of to do much backing.

We shopped, and settled on a '16 Canyon. She loves it.

I'm 6'2", and to be honest, I'm pretty comfortable driving her "Little" truck.

As said how old are they and how many miles a year?

I’d strongly consider just buying a Sierra with 100-120kmiles if they only put like 5,000 Miles a year on it.

If they are doing a lot then nothing at all wrong with the canyon the price over a full size just isn’t that much.

Your point was made, by me, to my dad. It was considered briefly and rejected. I think Tacomas are great.

I'd pick a Frontier or a Tacoma over a Canyon. The Frontiers are going to be more fitting for his budget, and they are great trucks. I owned a 2013 Frontier and had it for 3 years before trading up for a Sierra. The only reason I traded was because I needed a full size truck. Other than the size and the fuel economy, it was my absolute favorite vehicle.

All in all, you cant go wrong with any of them, its just finding one in your price range... That's going to be the hard part.

They are the best looking small truck out. Have an uncle with one and he seems to like it. He probably drives 3000 miles per year

I had a 2016 canyon all terrain for about 2 years. I was very happy with it. The interior is pretty nice, and larger than the other midsize pickups (not sure about the new ranger). I also hated how you can't raise and lower the driver's seat in a tacoma.

I only got rid of it because a baby came along and the back seat was just a little too cramped for child seats.

Otherwise, I can't say anything negative about it.

If I can find the right one with long bed, I'm getting one. Just don't need my Sierra anymore, and I absolutely hate parking the damn thing.

I'm not a truck designer but this is what I don't understand personally.

How do we go from things like a Tacoma and Canyon being too small for car seats and full size adults in the back to full size 4 door trucks having tons of space back there? I mean an F150 and Tundra 4 door are like being in the back of an old school cadilac. I haven't ridden in the other brands back seat in a long time.

I have a 2005 Colorado with a straight 5 engine. Just passed 225k miles and haven't had any problems. Canyon is the same truck though they no longer make the straight 5. I think they make a V6 and 4-cyl. in both gas and duramax diesel. It'll be hard to find something new at your price point. I'd recommend checking facebook marketplace and various used dealers because you can get some very nice used ones with low miles in the $20k-30k range.

This is what I always think of when someone complains about the "price of trucks these days".
