Giles Island waiting list question

Any of you baws ever got a chance to hunt here? I got my name on the waiting list for a 3 day bow hunt and a 3 day gun hunt. How likely will it be they have availability for the 2018-2019 season? Is this place worth the money and hype?

I work with a guy who killed a perfectly symmetrical 12 point, 150+ class last season

I’ve seen the pictures and heard stories on the internet. Really curious as to the waiting list. Do they usually fill up this early in the year or not?

My brother in law has killed 2 or 3 really nice deer with his bow out there. ~150” deer

Is there more than one club on that Island?

I won an auction hunt at Giles for an October hunt. It was hot. I killed a doe. It’s a fine place. If you’ve never hunted a river island, give it a try. Nothing like hunting on the river.

Reason I ask is I know a guy who is a member and he constantly refers to it as Giles, just didn't think this particular place allowed members.

Huge area, so I would be surprised in there were not more than one place. Davis has 3/4.

A buddy guided there for a few years. It’s amazing and worth whatever wait you have

what is it about this place that makes it so perfect for big deer?

Good genetics
birthdays
groceries
fertile soil
habitat
Low pressure/selective harvest
You can do it in other places but you have to be committed

The island had 2 clubs when I had the opportunity to go there back in 2008. Did a squirrel hunt with dogs that LSU Ag Center coordinates as a fundraiser for LA 4-H. Company that I worked for at the time sent 3 of us since we were doing work for the ag center at the time.
Everything was top notch. They were just finishing their latest lodge at the time. Talked to the lead guide, cant remember his name, about the deer hunting. Used cameras extensively to inventory bucks year after year to insure they were only shooting bucks that were a minimum of 4.5 years old. At the time, they had cull or trophy hunts. Big map on the wall with stand locations that showed the two clubs.
Not an OT baller, so deer hunting there is out of my league.

Hunted squirrels there with the LSU Ag fundraiser deal.
The deer are the most magnificent creatures you will see anywhere in LA/MS. Nothing compares.
Gun wait list is extremely long. Bow wait list may actually get you in for 2019.

Bow is usually 2-3 years iirc
Gun is a mile long.
It’s very much worth it if you have the coin.
