You think they have permission on all those spots?

They find sites then knock on doors. Some turn them away, some say have at it.

Yet another roadblock for me…with my Social Anxiety Disorder, I ain’t knocking on random doors where talking to humans is involved.

Same.

If I walk past a piece of tin I’m 100% flipping it no doubt, but I’d much rather hike up a snake in the woods. I’ve only recently and reluctantly given in to doing some road cruising to find certain snakes. I’m an old school relic.

Most of these out of state guys have hookups when they enter a new area. The social media herping community is fairly large now, so they are reaching out and getting sites from local guys, then reciprocating in kind. Exactly the situation with the guy coming to my place tonight.

But if I had to drop a guy out of a helicopter into a random place armed with two hands and a cell phone to find snakes, my money is on the guy coming to my place tonight. His ability to find snakes is uncanny.

@TigrrrDad,

Have you ever found an eastern diamondback rattlesnake in Louisiana? I know their historical range included at least Washington and St. Tammany parishes, but I think they are largely gone now from Louisiana. Would that most likely be correct or not?

One other question. Does the western diamondback rattlesnake naturally range anywhere on the western side of Louisiana?

So do these guys purposeful place tin out in the woods so they have places to find snakes?

Plenty of them do.

Superior had tons of oil fiekds behind me.

I don't find tin. I find whole sheds Ive never seen at least once a year.

Still standing. 100 years later.

I have not. Only one I’ve personally caught was in Florida, though a friend gets them in Mississippi.

Nah, in Texas their natural range runs a lil bit away from the eastern border with Louisiana.

Hoping to do a Texas trip next year for some, but right now I’m so obsessed with the Everglades. Going back next month.

There were never that many actually less than a dozen "reported" all time. One was reported near Franklinton in early 90s some grad students did a lot of searching but came up zeros. That is the last reported sighting. I remember reading something at LSU that had all reports of an area from north of Franklinton to just east of folsom. Given the habitat and land use changes - safe bet none remain in LA. closest report to LA was about 45 miles east of state line shortly after katrina.
