We are going there soon. Does anyone know if you can catch anything in the surf (fish or crabs) ? Is it worth it to pack a couple of rods ?

walk out to the point and fish dixey bar when the water's moving (preferably falling). Use live croakers and you will catch fish (Bull reds and sharks are thick there) Just make sure if you drive down there at night that you don't park inside the gate to the fort.

The best time for Dixey bar is the last two hours of the falling tide. Big redfish are thick there then. Up to that time you will catch more jacks and sharks.
Live croackers on the bottom is the best. Let them move with the current somewhat however

My childhood friend and I stumbled upon a lake/lagoon just outside the fort several years ago. The place was absolutely covered with soft shell and hard shell crab.

I fished the surf about 2miles down from Ft. Morgan for about 25 years. I caught bluefish, hardtails, reds, and the occasional speck and pompano. Best lure: krocodile spoon, jig heads with cocahoe bodies.

Yes....we love it. Be sure to go to the pier inside the park....Use a shrimp and drop it right next to the pier structure...you will catch flounder.
Have a valid bama fishing license. Green jeans is there and check the guys next to us.
Also, the pier just across from Kiva Dunes is money. Falling tide and you can walk to the left and fish around the sunken logs...

If you don't catch anything, go to Tacky Jack's and enjoy some cold ones.
