Dad passed away 3 years ago and when we cleaned out his old place, I forgot that I had found an old rod n reel that he used to use.
It’s an Abu-Matic 120. The only writing I see on the rod is “Pecos Bill 645”.
I’d love to catch one more fish on it just knowing how much he loved fishing.

Would you use it or keep it put away?

I seriously doubt catching one more fish on it is gonna harm it. Catch one more for the memory then put it away and pass it down through the family.

Save it for What? Your dad would probably want that R&R to catch as many fish for you as possible so go catch em son!

Hell yeah use it. If it breaks or rusts, then put it up on a shelf.

Thats a great memento.

I'd clean it up and fish with it once a year or so.

old school pistol grip. that'll give the forearms a workout. I remember back in the day surf fishing all day with pistol grips. forearm would cramp up solid later that night

By all means fish with it some. Every opening day of squirrel season I break out my Grandfathers old Ithaca SxS and kill a few with it. It is a Damascus gun and I only shoot low brass in it but it does bring back memories from years ago.

I have several of my Dad's rods and reels. But for some reason I cherish the two old metal minnow buckets he had.

We had quite a few of my grandfathers and great grandfathers old rod n reels and metal buckets at our camp in Slidell. Katrina has them all now. Heart breaking.

I got a few of my grandfathers baitcasting reels and a tackle box. Still use em. Not as old as the op's but everytime I break one out, people notice them.
