Well, looks like I need to start looking at trading in maybe... TBH, though, I've had no issues yet and I'm almost at 60k.

Seems like you're still under warranty

I'd show them the problem along with the TSB and get it fixed under warranty or at least try

I just bought a new ford. Went with 5.0 after seeing papa pogey have his issues. The lady did tell me that hey are redesigning the 3.5 after the 2.7. They haven't experienced really any issues with the 2.7, unlike the 3.5. So she said they will just copy cat the design. Not sure when that will come into play. 2018, 19? Who knows.

Thanks for the info.

I'm gonna get it checked out. I have to take it in for an oil change anyways.

I have the 3.5 L V6 non Ecoboost or regular engine. I tow trailer with small compact tractor regularly from Beaumont, TX to Crowley, LA; no problems. I tow a 6x12 x 8 ft high trailer loaded down to around 4,000 lbs from Atlanta to the BR area. Then I tow a 21 ft champion bass boat no problems.

I presently got 175,000 miles on my 2015 F 150'and going to trade it in for a 2017.

I currently have 62k on my 2014 ecoboost with no issues. its paid for and has extended warranty if any issues arise. only issue I had was the electric steering went out, it was a weird feeling having to turn the wheel back when it would get stuck, they also changed master cylinder for the brake recall.

I tow my bay boat and a 20' trailer with 50 horse tractor with no issues. I get about 10-12 mpg pulling and avg 16 regular driving. I have a level kit with 35s.

if I bought another truck id prolly go back with the v8 or get a f250. they are good engines and I haven't had any issues but like this thread is stating a lot of issues with the older ecoboost engines.

Better read the fine print on your extended warranty and make sure the timing chain is covered. I had it also, was not covered.

I have the factory extended warranty, couldn't tell you if its covered or not. hopefully I don't have the issue. I know the issues were on the first run of motors out. the 2014 and up was suppose to have this issue addressed. if it breaks it breaks. I know the service guy at a dealership if an issue happens. like I said its been a great engine and truck. I know it gets a lot of hate. until mine breaks, i'm gunna keep driving it.

Understand, I was all ecoboost! Then the problems started and Ford just said go f yourself. I truly believe if they can get the issue fixed and tweak the mileage they can be great engines. And FYI, I had my wife's edge in being serviced last week, they had two 17's with the same exact issue broke apart.

That sucks, my buddy has a 15 ecoboost with High miles and no issues. I think it's luck of the draw with these engines. I had a 5.0 before this truck in my 12 f150 and it was great but I think the power and pulling of the ecoboost is better.

If I had a 17 with the issue they could keep it, I'd be pissed. But then again I know guys with new f250s and blown turbos and issues.

Thoughts on the Ford 3.5L EcBoost V6 Engine? Would infrequently (unfortunately) tow 21' Ranger within 100 mile range.

Not a Ford guy but a friend of mine has one and tows his 21' Triton all over; no problems.

I have a 2016 F150 4x4 with the 3.5L Ecoboost and I am getting 21.2 mpg over the first 25,000 miles... I've been very impressed with the gas mileage.

To OP: It will pull that boat just fine... you may not even realize it's back there. I pull a 6,000 lb camper with mine.

Turbo or not, I think it's crazy to use a V6 to pull a full size boat. Tacomas pull full size boats too but I've done it in them and it sure doesn't feel great for the vehicle.

I don't see an issue with a turbo for speed like in a car, but for torque and for pulling weight it just seems naturally a very bad idea. You are putting a ton of stress on that motor. There's a reason why all the manufacturers have 5 liter 8 cylinder motors as their work horses. I just think you are playing with fire working around that.

Now if you don't need to pull or very infrequently, I think a 6 cylinder makes a ton of sense in a truck.

I think its crazy someone would pay more than that for a used truck with 100,000 miles

The Ford inline 6 cylinder sold in the 1990's could outpull the bigger Ford V8 during that time period. That inline 6 was a mule.

I have a 2011 lariat with ecoboost and 105K miles. I have been running various tunes since 28K miles. Only problems I have had is the condensation issue. Pulls my 20 foot glastron with no problems. Can run 75-80 all day with it. I will get another ecoboost when I decide to trade this one in.

The primary benefit of the smaller turbos used in the ecoboost is more torque at low RPM.

The motor and components are engineered for the added stress.
