It's not really pointless. I'm in a whole lot better position than someone without a gun

Yes it is. In a better position as in you have an impact weapon. Not trying to be a dick, but in two seconds and the element of surprise, that gun is at best a hammer.

Right, but as I've already stated, if Im coming into a questionable situation, I always chamber. I just don't have one in while I'm driving down the interstate and shite. I'm like downshift, I dont really like carrying a loaded weapon around. I don't put myself in many situations where I'd need a gun, but I like having the security of knowing I have one near me.
I understand your sentiment,, but you won't change my thought process on this. I feel much more secure than when I didn't have a weapon beside my right leg.

It all boils down to this:

1. To take a life, you MUST be saving a life. It can be your life, your spouses life or a total strangers life but somebodys life has to be at risk.
2. You CANNOT be the aggressor in the engagement.
3. If there was any opportunity to avoid the conflict, it must be exercised.
**exception** If you as a man are alone, you must run from a fight if possible. If you have a woman or child with you, you can stand your ground because They cannot run as fast as you. (this was poorly worded but you get the point)
4. You cannot be doing anything illegal when you are defending yourself. *ex* its not self defense if you are dealing drugs and somebody tries to steal your money so you shoot them.
5. You dont have to retreat from your home or car.

Those are the basics. What did I miss folks?

Be aware of everything around is the best defense. If somebody walks up behind you and knocks you on the head with a crowbar it won't matter if you have five loaded Judges on you belt. You will be laying on the ground.

Just like the saying, "the real safety is between your ears," the same could be said for weapons. I carry every day, but I like to think of my brain as my primary weapon of self defense. Having deadly force available to me gives me lots of security and confidence that I can keep myself myself an my family safe, but self defense begins with logic.

A concealed weapon is not for putting people in their place. A permit to carry is not a liscence to go looking for trouble. It is a means to save your life if your life is really what needs saving. I'll defend the second amendment to some pretty extreme degrees, but one downside of "shall issue" states (such as the one where I live) is that some guys get the "tough guy" mentality once they have a gun in their pocket.

Even though I carry, I still try to avoid the situations, areas, and people that I would if I didn't have a weapon at all.

I got my concealed when a friend of mine and myself got jumped riding bicycles at a state park. They spotted us leaving the truck, waited til we got a good ways away, and then two cars cut us off and about 5 or 6 guys got out. We were lucky because we were right next to a closed golf course at the time so we hopped a fence and jetted. These guys were driving up and down the road waiting for us to come the only possible way back to my truck. Smart thugs but we had the Cops take us back and a good laugh in their face because they thought they had us.

CSB

but it is situations like that that lead me to get my concealed license. Even had I had a gun on me I would have acted the same which I think is key.

Peter's 8 point disagrees.

That was some pretty quick shooting though.

I don't carry, but keep one in my console ready to roll.

Not true. Five loaded Judges on your belt create a protective force field that protect you from any would-be attackers. Besides who would mess with somebody wearing five Judges on their belt!?!

Wow. That's a good reason to always lock your truck

I had an email chain sent to me a few years back, that was being sent around by women to women.

Not sure if the story was real but it scared me enough to start locking my car every time i went to the gas station.

Apparently a women went inside to pay and came back, got in her car, and there was a man in the back seat who had snuck in.

I don't carry a gun but I do keep pepper spray in the center console.

And I always pay with CC at the pump so I can say "sorry I don't have cash". I've been approached a handful of times. Little scary but I just don't get gas at night or in shady areas.

With beggers like that, I find that a stern and forceful "I don't have any cash" or "No" does the trick. They pretty much just move on.

This has always worked. I've never had anyone press the issue further. They just move on to the next person.

But the day they continue to persue is when i will get nervous.
