Now one of their minions has shared a response from Bill Cassidy that he claims shows Bill opposes "flooding of non floodable agricultural crops".

The problem is, the letter says nothing to that effect. It's your everyday, run-of-the-mill form letter that all the politicians use. No descript, yet descript enough to sound like he's on your side.

Lmao! These boys are so delusional, they can't recognize a form letter when it's in their face.

I think the un-hunted refuges (gov land) hurt more than anything habitat-wise, both north of us and here. Thes duds are barkng up the wrong tree with trying to control law abiding private landowners. I also think Larry Reynolds has a good theory as to why ducks dont come like they used to. Its several different yet related issues. These baws are highly entertaining, however.

Yep, they mad. And I love it.

One of them was complaining about subsidies that pay midwest farmers to leave every 5th row of grain standing for wildlife habitat.

I just hate to tell him that those same programs are available to farmers down here...lmao!

You would think that according to them only Missouri and Iowa are “baiting” fields with corn. But it’s done all up and down the flyway with different crops. Plenty done here in Louisiana

They act like second crop rice is okay because they harvested the first crop, and because you flood rice as a normal agricultural practice. It's still a flooded, unharvested grain crop. The normal ag practice is to harvest it, not to leave it for ducks.

Duck hunting in Louisiana for the average person is dead. Let it rest peacefully.

Tell this to the FFL.

While you're at it, ask them where the CES or USDA defines termination of a crop within their "normal agricultural practices". They seem to be missing the fact that flooding the corn is terminating the crop.

Just a little constructive criticism. Planting crop and flooding it and then hunting is not illegal if it is not manipulated. I see you jumping all over these guys Facebook pages and think you may be loosing credibility. Go after the guys really breaking the law. There are plenty. FYI I support the cause and think you should add banning mud motors from refuges and adding 3 splits a season. If you want more birds in Louisiana.

Some baw just threw this out. I'm getting my popcorn.

Some of those motherfrickers are dense as frick if they think we haven't lost a substantial amount of rice acreage in SWLA. There was nearly 600k acres of rice planted in Louisiana in 1977. Last year, there was about 390k.

And acting like our coastal marshes haven't changed either is ridiculous. I have plenty of documents that would refute that nonsense.

Another good one from the peanut gallery:
quote:

I see no loss of credibility resulting from stating facts which are true. I haven't read every post here, but those I have, all have merit. If I can't hunt uncut second crop rice here in La because a crawfish farmer ran cages, then a guy in Missouri dam sure shouldn't be hunting a corn field that was never harvested then flooded. You guys trashing this group just can't make a logical argument for farming ducks!

How the hell does a guy crawfishing have anything to do with someone flooding corn? Is he trying to be ironic here?

He trying to compare a field that has rice knocked down by crawfisherman and floating around to an uncut cornfield. I’m really wondering if any of them have ever read the federal regulations. All they keep saying it’s illegal when in fact the guys doing corn are completely legal.

From their facebook, this is a huge issue as to why we no longer have the ducks (mallards) we used to: "Look...I grew up in the swamps pirogue and an outboard. Swamp is gone. Choked with salvinia. Ur not gonna do it like u could 30 years ago."

Ducks killed in each state

I’m not sure but I think these are last seasons numbers. Arkansas, California, Texas, and Louisiana are the only states above a million harvested. Louisiana had the highest amount of birds killed per hunter. Seems like we are still killing quite a few birds here in the south. I don’t think flooded corn in Missouri is impacting the flyway that much.

So what is FFL talking about when they're jumping the guy in Kansas for hunting first year millet, saying it's not legal?

Their contention is that the law was changed from it's original intent, which banned this activity.

My problem is, they are basing it on what is considered "normal agricultural operations". The definition of "Normal Agricultural Operation" is
quote:

A normal agricultural planting, harvesting, post-harvest manipulation, or agricultural practice that is conducted in accordance with official recommendations of State Extension Specialists of the Cooperative Extension Service of the USDA.

Where does it say anything about termination of a crop? Because that's what happens when you flood that corn. It also doesn't say in the regulations that you can't plant crops for waterfowl. It simply says you can't manipulate them (which does not include flooding), and says it is legal to hunt flooded standing crops.

The funny thing is, the original treaty was not specific to hunting regulations as far as I can tell. So I don't know what they are going by for this.

Yeah, but those are just lies made up by LDWF and USFWS to protect the guys flooding corn. Lol!

The regulations do specifically state that you cannot manipulate planted millet, but if it comes back up on it's own in later years, it is considered natural vegetation and can be manipulated.
