Great thread.

The longer you archery hunt, the more it becomes apparent that no broadhead is perfect, but knowing the performance dynamics of your head will help you determine where your best shot is.

I’ve enjoyed reading the comments in this thread.

I prefer mechanicals with a 60+ lb compound bow, but the most important thing is a well tuned bow and an accurate shot. If you need to shoot mechanicals because your fixed points aren’t grouping, then you need to work on your bow.

I have had good success with both the original rage and the basic grim reaper.

I’ve been using a Sik F4 the last 2 years. No issues on a doe and a pig

Oh look, a stupid frick. If you prefer fixed blades, dont mind the decreased cutting area and less accuracy, that's fine. Shoot them. But there are no "points of failure" on quality mechanical broadheads. Stories of them bouncing off deer, not opening and so on are lies. We hunt primarily in the Miss Delta and Kansas. Annually I kill more deer, and bigger deer with a bow/arrow than anybody on this board. And they are all killed with a 2 Blade Rage broadhead, and have been for ~15 years. People that have a problem with mechanical heads either have never used them, and can't shoot worth a frick.
ohhhh. Errybody get they dicks out. We measurin em 2nite

I suspect many of long time bowhunters are avoiding this thread.

I wasn’t even going to deer hunt this year even after drawing KS tag. Now I want to go and shoot that big buck we got on camera with a fixed blade on my crossbow.

I've shot a lot of both but finally went back to QAD exodus. Mechanicals for me were great until they weren't.

Had a skinny mech blade break when it hit a rib. Had a double lunged buck run 600 yards. If it wasnt for the once every three year snows, I never would have found him.

All the ghastly mechanical blood trails just weren't worth it anymore.

I couldn’t be happier with the QAD exodus. Blades sweep back over the arrow shaft so they fly exactly like my field points and go where I want them to go. Razor sharp out of the box and easy to replace blades, good cutting area, and every shot has been a pass through with good blood.

Switched to fixed blades a few years ago. Shot a 95 lb doe with a rage hypo, one blade sheared off on the nears side ribs. The other broke off on the far side. Zero blood trail, broke the arrow off. Luckily I heard her crash and was able to just walk to her.
