I was looking for some advice on public fishing spots in WBR parish to take a 4yr old. He got himself his first fishing pole for Christmas and I want to take him somewhere close by.

I live in Brusly right off river road by the MS River levee. Does anyone fish the bar pit on the other side of the levee? That would be really convenient, but don’t want to waste my time if there is nothing to catch.

If not, any suggestions near by?

Thanks!

Nope no one fishes the bar pits! No fish to be found.

I was joking. Obviously the river has to go down, but once it does you can catch fish in the pits. I live in brusly off the river road as well. When I used to have an atv I would load it up with a few rods and some tackle and go pond hoping.

Also you can go cat fishing off the side of the levee with it high as well.

As far as fishing in the Parish without a boat that is about your only option unless you have access to pond.

The island in plaquemine is your best bet for bass. Be careful fishing those pits because they are private land. I used to set up trot lines when the water was up. Underneath the intercoastal bridge is a popular spot. You can catch catfish and goo there.

You can go to the Morley marina and fish off the bank or the pier they have there. You can also cross the intracoastal and bank fish by the locks, assuming you dont have a boat.

Haven’t been in a couple years but if you go down Orleans quarters there’s 3 ponds. 1 on each side of the road and a big one at the end of the road. I used to fish there about every day. I’d either park my truck or my 4 wheeler on side of the road. Nobody will tell you anything, especially if you have your son. There used to be some good bass in there, I always let them go, and a good stock of bream too.

Sounds like it's time for his dad to get a boat for his birthday.
