Fishing/Crabbing Bay of Bay St. Louis

Renting a camp in later part of July in Pass Christian. Camp is on the South side of BSL between Mallini Bayou and Bayou Portage with a nice fishing pier.
What is the fishing and crabbing like in that area? I plan to leave a cage in the water just for the heck of it regardless (opposite side from where the kids swimming will take place of course). Any suggestions on tackle for pier fishing from the camp?

Crabs will be good in July
Fishing will be mostly hardheads with some occasional croakers and drum off the pier with dead shrimp

Time will be best spent crabbing unless you want to try at night with some lights even then you are mainly hoping for drum and white trout.

There is a spotlight on the dock for fishing. We are not opposed to fishing at night in the hopes of a good yield!

Will go with shrimp for sure. Hardheads would be good crab trap bait at least.

In that case, try some sac-a-lait jigs. white and chart or some variation of that. They are small but can show up in numbers on the right tide.

Plenty of specks and white trout and occasional redfish around those lights all summer long. Depending on which pier and light setup, some of those are loaded and others are hit and miss. Magneto matrix shad on 1/8 jig head is my favorite around the lights. Go light on the line as well.

Pogies for the crab traps. Can sawzall them frozen I think.

Like others have said the crabs should be decent and the fishing with be hit or miss with best opportunity being at night. You can also get some live bait at Rosco's in the Pass Christian Harbor.
