Headed out in the morning, staying on the jack up barge. I have never fished here before. Any tips?

watch out for sharks taking your fish off your stringer when wade fishing

Don’t fish with live bait...you will have more than enough hardheads to deal with using plastic.
Last year we did well with the lemonhead matrix shad.

Find a section of the beach that isn’t jammed with people, look for bait and start wading or drifting. If you get on a bite stay with it till it dies. Plastics tightlined on 1/4pz jigheads or suspending jerk baits work well. Topwater early in the morning till the sun comes up. Good luck and when you start filling the stringer, keep the line away from you. You will see sharks but majority of the time they do t want anything to do with you and will stay out of the way

Me either. It's on my bucket list for sure.
Closest I've been is fishing production platforms and The Wreck out in Battledore.

Went on the sea plane trip recently. We used the tackle that was provided, which was a dark green and silver plastic cocahoe type bait and a chartreuse jig head 1/4 oz. I tried a few other colors, but the color provided seemed to work the best.
As far as the jig head, I would personally go with 1/8 oz if you can get away with it. Better action for shallow water IMO.
Top water works well as does twitch baits if you aren't in a grassy area. Good luck!

We have the option to use the skiffs or we can use my 24’ pathfinder that we are going to the island in.

gotcha. Have fun and be safe. Pretty good swells on my last two trips out there. The skiffs were a good time. As stated above drifting in the skiffs (in deeper water) was the most productive for us. lots of people in the grass/shallows. we did better drifting a ways from shore. Hope you tear em up
