The first tagged redfish was caught on opening day. Talked to the gentleman this morning at Gail's. He was disappointed, because he wanted to win the trout division.

So that means the trucks been won now the boats are up for grabs. Sweet.

The fella was pissed off because he'd just bought a truck. I said cash was better and be scoffed, because it creates tax issues. Said he wanted a damn boat.

yes, you will get 1099'ed for any STAR winnings. i got it when i won the cobia/ling/lemon fish division a few years ago. at first i was like "wtf?", but CCA runs a legit operation and uncle sam is gona make sure he gets his cut.

This is a good reminder to just go pay the STAR fee.
If I saw that tag, and hadn't paid up, I'd punch myself in the nuts.

49 still swimming. But yes taxes are on you.

What if you really did catch one of the tagged fish, but failed the lie detector test? Do they do that for STAR?
I would have no idea. I've never sniffed a tag.

The fella said he planned to run to Timbalier Sauturday a.m. out of Fourchon. Apparently, the water was a little rough or something, so he stayed in close until light and caught the red. According to him, he didn't even realize it was tagged until that night when he went to clean fish. He was at the bait shop at 5 a.m. Sunday to do the necessary paperwork.
I would've questioned the authenticity of the tale, but he was an older gentleman and seemed very upset about not getting to win a boat. Plus, he seemed like a regular and they were filling out & faxing forms.
I still haven't entered. Guess I'd better.

I'm sure they require a LD test.

i've got them somewhere, let me check. it wasn't really all that big compared to the state records, but that year it was big enough, 60#.
