Was in Precision a couple of weeks ago and there was this old couple in lane next to me. I sat down to reload a mag and looked up. She had a .380 ponted right at me. I was about to lose my Sh** on her when a guy from front busts through the door and rips her a new one

In the words of Gordon Hutchinson "As long as the barrel is pointed in a safe direction, the worst thing that can happen from an accidental discharge is you get embarrassed. And you can get over embarrassment."

Nothing bothers me more than somebody who is over-confident in their ability to safely handle a gun. Far too many people are over confident.

Conversation I overheard at the Slidell Academy gun counter yesterday between a young-20's looking guy and an employee behind the counter:

Customer: I want to buy a pistol.

Employee: Well, what kind are you wanting?

Customer: What's the best kind?

Employee: Did you have a make or model in mind? What are you intending to use it for?

Customer: I just want to buy something before the ban and there's nothing left.

Employee: Well, while you're thinking about what you'd like, start filling out the background check for me for me.

Customer: Wait. What's this for?

Employee: If you wish to buy a pistol, you need to pass a background check in order to do so.

Customer: Well I don't know if I want to give all that information out. Does the form have to be complete. I don't want to give out my social.

Employee: I'm sorry sir. If it's not complete we cannot sell you a pistol.

Customer: That's okay. I don't know what I want anyway. (walks away)

This is what I meant. Thank God he didn't get it.

And that's why we can't find ammo

A few guys i know have worked at cabelas at various times. They all have great stories about the shite that happens at the gun counter.

The worst was a guy dropping the mag out of a glock he was checking out and slamming in a loaded one

and people who are just ignorant. I have friends and family who I try to educate on firearm usage all the time. I let them shoot whenever we are in a safe area. Nothing pisses me off more than someone who picks a gun up and immediately puts his/her finger on the trigger. I usually just scream at them, take the gun, and move on to something else.

I might get in trouble for this, but when teaching my now 5-yr old about her new BB gun a couple Christmases ago we were in the house practicing aiming at deer and fish on the wall. She kept trying to put her finger on the trigger, so I bit her finger. It probably wasn't the best thing to do, but it was the first thing that came to mine. Now she's the safest 5-yr old with a BB gun you'd ever imagine.

. Instead he racked slide and dropped mag instead of the other way around. Only takes one dumbass brainfart.
no, it takes more than one.

1. don't play with guns (sense discipline)
2. don't put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to fire (trigger discipline)
3. don't point it at yourself (muzzle discipline)

I'm putting this last one for the rifle/shotgun shooters who think a safety will save them. Some weapons, including some of the revered 1911's, will fire if dropped at the wrong angle:

4. don't have a droppable weapon loaded & cocked (like climbing a tree stand, handing it to someone, climbing over a fence, etc.)

Just FYI the wounds are so big because of the angle the bullet entered and exited. You wouldn't see wounds like that on center mass hits.

Clearly you missed the point of my statement.

I have a twelve year old and he loves to shoot. We always talk about gun safety. I showed him this before school and again stressed how dangerous all guns can be if not handled with respect. He was surprised at the damage it did. He said it puts such a small hole in the target at the range. It hit home and he said we are just like rabbits and squirrels,I think he really gets it now. Thanks.
