Anyone have any experience buying fema trailers from auction? I will be remodeling a house and am considering buying one to put on the property until the job is done. Maybe bring to the hunting camp afterwards.

The ones I have personally seen all needed to be completely gutted. Those were from New Orleans, so idk about the rest

My cousin and uncle bought one for deer camp. It leaked and needed floor and wall work. The plumbing all leaked too.

Expect to do work.

I've got two and bought both at auctions. Both developed leaks a couple years ago and now both have a portable carport over them. To repair the roof was going to be $5K (each) and I had a 18x36 carport built for $2300/ea so it was a no brainer to me.

Both on mine were the handicap models and have a 12ft center slide. I did some remodeling by building a wall and a couple of other minor things. One is my deer camp and one is on the lake. For my bride and I they are comfortable and very much serve their purpose.

This site usually has Fema trailer auctions on it from time to time

they have "some" that are still in decent condition, but most were treated and trashed just as they were, free trailers from the gubment

my cousin bought one and he had to redo most of the inside, all the cabinet hinges were broken, its like rowdy teenagers lived in it. he said most he saw were all in the same shape and some were beyond repair so inspect them very well, especially for weak floors and walls.

they can be a great deal but its like buying budget used cars from a dealer out in the country, prepare thy anus and buyer beware

Appreciate the feedback. Was really looking at the mobile homes, not the travel trailers. It seems like it'll be hard to find one in decent shape though

My dad bought one in BR while travelling through several years ago. So i had to go pick it up. No a fun pull in a half ton with no brakes from BR to shreveport.

He sold it about 6 months later. Just needed too much work to make it decent.

I bought one for a good price and we used it quite a bit one summer. It started having issues with leaking so I sold it for cheap (what I had in it) to my BIL. He gutted the whole thing and it looks really nice but it was an extensive repair.

I bought one a 5 years or so ago for a deer camp. Had to changeout the hot water tank but other than that no issues. It does have a roof covering it though.
