Its the wrong time of year to attempt fishing at false river unless you are night fishing. People like to complain about fishing there now but each year (for the last 5 years) 5+ 10lb bass have been caught and recorded annually. The G.W. only mess with you if you are openingly drinking or are young kids. keep your drinks in cups and act like you've driven a boat before and you'll have a great weekend of family boating.

Bumping this thread from 5 years ago. Heading to False River next weekend. We rented a house and will be bringing a center console to just cruise around and relax. Where should we launch the boat, eat, stop for drinks on the water? The water is high at our place on Lake St. John and they just re instituted the no wake for Concordia Parish. Is that an issue on False River? Thanks!

Launching depends on where your camp is located as there are multiple spots from which to launch. Jims, Sand Bar, and Bueche's are all on the river and can accommodate your eating/boating needs. I'm not aware of a no wake policy except in the designated area close to shore (no wake zone). You can get on top and go if your out in the middle.

I like bueche's but You can't tie up there, unless you don't mind your boat getting beat to shite. (Make sure you drop someone off on the pier to run up and get some Ribey bites while you wait in boat.) So that leaves sandbar, morels/saterfields or jim's. Sandbar has floating dock which makes it nice.
Bring an anchor so you can float. Several floating areas where you can get out of boat traffic.
Be careful. Lots of idiots. Saw a grown man cut in between two boats this weekend while pulling kids on a tube!

Both ends are shallow…don’t dive in

From what I've read here on the forum, you gotta stay away from and be careful of the brush piles...

You can fish Chuck’s brush piles, he doesn’t mind at all.

There is no pleasure in boating on that lake....polluted and crazy arse speed demons everywhere.

If you are use to lake St. John, this will be complete culture shock for you my brother. Boats everywhere you’ll long for the comfort of lake St. John soon enough. (Unless you are into huge crowds)
It’s about like lake St. John on Fourth of July back when the flotilla was really big..but worse.

Where should we launch the boat
Morrel's/Satterfield's in downtown New Roads is a nice launch, but with the tiny parking lot, you'll probably have to park the empty trailer across the street behind the bank. Your car will be safe there. The area gets very crowded on Sundays when the church across the street is having service.
The Sandbar is where the old Bonaventure's launch on the South end on the New Roads side. I'm not 100% sure there's even a launch there any longer. They do have a great pier to tie up a boat though.
On the Island side south end, there's the quieter LA Express launch on 413 in Jarreau. Easy to launch, easy to park. My preferred launch when coming from Baton Rouge area. It's probably 20 minutes closer than all of the others.
On the Island side north end, there's a boat launch at Jim's Place campground and bar/restaurant.

Got to get out there by 9 and be back at the camp by 1 to beat the crowds
Or go during the week

Appreciate everyones advice. Im definitely used to quiet and calm Lake St. John and MS/LA marsh fishing. Should be interesting to see how this compares! Worst case is we head back to the house we rented, cook steak, and have some good drinks!

Try not to get too annoyed at the clowns in the wake boats
