I have a 2019 3.5 (42K miles) that has this recall listed on it. How did you know to bring your truck in? I've heard that you'll notice a noise for a few seconds after starting it cold. That what happened? I've also heard that Ford won't honor the recall until the cam phasers start acting up, but won't honor it to change them before that happens.

Sorry to hijack for a second but if you were going to test drive 1/2 ton 4x4 trucks, which one would you test first out of these:Lariat, Laramie, Sierra, Silverado
I have 16' Ecoboost F150 now

quote:Ford sent us a letter in October - Customer Satisfaction Program 21B10, 21N03, and 21N08. They first re-program the powertrain control module in an attempt to stop the rattle, keep it another day for cold soak start and if it rattles after the re-program they de-program to OEM spec and replace parts. Took 4 days at dealership. They remove the cab, no cam rattle now and runs good (but never ran bad, just start-up rattle), no cab squeaks, etc. No charge. One-time repair which spooks me a little.
How did you know to bring your truck in?
There's a Ford tech on YouTube that's very informative on this issue and seems to know his stuff. I watched his vids to educate myself before calling the dealership.
The 3.5EB engine will run like a scalded dog though.

Cold starting ticking noise. YouTube has many videos that demonstrate the start up noise.
My cam phasers have been replace 3 times.

What year model? I had a 13 that was rattling bad around 90k miles. Traded it in for a 5.0 that I still currently have. It's an ok motor, but I miss the speed and power of the Eco.

24 mpg from a 3.5 or 2.7?
v8 if I was driving interstate a lot, around 18/19 in town. But its gone down tremendously since I started baw-ing it out.

Do you have to special order the 5.0 in the 21 King Ranch. All I see in inventory is the 3.5 hybrid. Anyone know the battery replacement costs on these?

Generally the 5.0s are much more rare. If you want the V8 you need to order it. Most people want the 7.2 pro power and you need the powerboost for that.
Unless something has changed the battery has a 8 year 100k mile warranty.

I will only keep mine 4 years so mine will be more than covered before the warranty expires.

Vood,
Are there any restrictions on outfitting the power boost w a leveling kit and mud tires? Where I hunt it’s lots mud on rainy days.

None at all. You are only limited by your budget. I didn't level or change the tires on mine, but numerous people have.
There are some great F150 forums out there with lots of pictures of their trucks lifted or leveled with 35s and up on them.
I don't know how Chicken feels about linking other forums, so I wont link the forum but here is an example of lifted 2021 White Powerboost. 4 inch BDS lift, 35s and aftermarket 18s.

During Ida it was our generator for 5 days and I used just barely over a half of tank of gas. It was used to power a 110 AC unit, TVs, small fridge, the home internet and numerous lamps.
That's impressive. I also saw a video of a fella running two campers off of the 7.2KW generator.
When you add the 906 miles (electric) to the total, it comes to 23.5MPG.
I'm thinking real hard about getting the Powerboost when the prices come down or if I can somehow get a crazy trade offer on my 2011 Ford F-150 EB.
Thanks for the info you've provided.

Your welcome.
One greatest things about the Pro Power solution is it allows you to hold 30 gallons of gas safely in an emergency situation. No need to have gas cans everywhere.
All the engine is used for is to charge the battery. It fires up, runs for a short amount of time and then shuts down. It does this safely and quietly.
Ford really hit a home run with the Pro Power. If you are interested in it, you should go for it. You absolutely wont regret it.

Sierra is just a slightly more expensive Silverado so I wouldn’t bother with that one. I’ve never driven a Ram so I’d try that. Or the new tundra.

Crappy engines exist on all configurations. 5.4 Triton(gas), 6.0 Powerstroke(diesel), 1.6 and 2.0 Ecoboost(gas) are all TERRIBLE engines.
Are you referencing the 3V 5.4? The 2V seem to do well; 3v less so. Had the 2V in our 02 FX4 and had no issues for the ~225k miles we had on it. Was a solid motor. used to tow our 2-horse trailer as well. Traded truck in for 2013 5.0 in 2017.
Do like the 5.0. and the 36gallon tank.
