Extended warranty – Is it worth it?

Buying a new Polaris ranger here soon. While working out the details, the dealer asks if I was interested in buying a four-year extended warranty. I believe they said it was through Zurich, but I could be wrong. Cost is estimated at $550, but they were going to confirm. The standard manufactures warranty is a mere 6-months.
Seems like cheap insurance to me, but my concern is not the cost of the policy – My concern is the coverage on these extended warranties. I know I need more details, and I will get with the dealer on this. Just hoping someone here is in the business or has been down this road in the past, and would like to offer their thoughts.

i can't imagine the headache of most of those claims
"this thing is broken, its a POS"
"well this is caused by you"
"its supposed to do this, its a POS"
"well this is caused by you"
just make sure you read through the verbiage of warranty info

Most experts will tell you the same thing. NO!
Instead of spending that money, put aside enough each month to accumulate about the same as the cost of the warranty in about 6-8 months. Put it in a savings account and use it for unexpected issues, NOT maintenance type stuff. That way you have a little set aside for those expenses and if you don't need them, you still have the money. PLUS, that money will cover any repair, not just what they decide.

I bought 54 months of warranty on my side by side. It has paid for a little over 1700 bucks in parts and a decent amount of labor at this point.
I did not pay 1700 bucks for the warranty.

It's a Polaris...get a warranty

If you don't get a warranty on any new side by side you're insane.
Most take a shite ton of work just to get to the part you want to chsnge.
They are cars built by smaller engineering teams at this point. Half the shite on them don't make a damned bit of sense.

A guy I know had two engines replaced in his RZR under warranty. He destroyed them both and they covered it.
Probably worth it on a SXS if you plan to do anything more than ride it in the yard.
I would never buy one for a vehicle fwiw.

How much do you plan to use and how hard are you going to be on it. Mud slinging is your first thought then yes. Kids gonna drive it then yes. Drinking on it then yes. Just for hunting and farm work then I would say no.
BTW. It's a gamble.
Good luck & enjoy

As tigerbass said, "its a gamble"
If you need it and don't have it, you're pissed. If you have it and don't use it you're pissed. Just like any other insurance.
My electric motor died on my Polaris EV. Luckily I had the warranty or it would have cost me $3,500.00 instead of $50.00 plus the $500.00 for 5 years of extended warranty.

I didn't bought mine in 2014 so far no issues. Change the oil and follow reccomendstions no issues. Now mine is mainly for use around the farm and deer lease NOT duck hunting.
I would think differently if I used it a lot in deeper water and heavy wet mud.

what extended warranties are out there for 4x4 trucks?

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but my brother just bought an EV. Dealer was/is pushing the extended warranty pretty hard.
Is the motor your only issue, and did the dealer say how common this is ?

Controller and battery failure is extremely common.

Thanks.
My personal shooting/hunting carts were/are 48v BBB (pre-EZ Go era -- lousy reliability, but not due to motors or controller) and 48v Beast (still exceptionally reliable after 4 years).
Sounds like I need to relay this Polaris EV warranty info to my brother.
Thanks again.

My service center repairs them. They take a lot more Labor time to repair and break a lot more than mower. Reason is they are used off road and the vibrations etc is more.
Yes, I have 8 dedicated mechanics and I send them to major mfg's to be trained yearly.
This is a growth industry with accessories & service.
We repair a lot between 4 stores year round. You cannot say that about snow blowers, compact tractors, or mowers.
To a young kid wanting to start a dealership this is where it is at. Golf carts and utv's this is what is hot and profitable at this time.
Would I get an ESP?
If you are a mechanic or mechanically incline, no.
Most everyone else I would think about it.
Things to ask.
1. Does it cover delivery and pickup to service center or selling dealer service center.
Most people not a big deal as they have trailers. Some people do not.
Some it is travel time as they may buy the UTV 3 hrs away from home.
2. Most warranties do not cover wear and tear parts like wheel bearings, etc.
Ask in detail what it covers.
3. I had one dealer near my service centers go under and he sold ESP's that no one took.
I ended up taking on that company as I saw a business opportunity to bring in more customers. Some areas can have voids.
Ask is this ESP accepted by most dealers in the area?
