Which deals can be purchased online? I was looking at the Academy Masterbuilt for $199 but it appears that is in store only.

BP is selling one for $199 too but I'm almost positive that's instore....You'll probably be able to nab one on Amazon for around the same price
ETA: Lowes will have masterbuilt smokers for $179, but not sure if that's in store only

I love the Masterbuilt. I have had mine for about four years or more and that sucker is awesome.

I'm considering getting a smoker to do cerakote curing. I'm wondering if a 16" barrel would fit in the Masterbuilt.

Will it get hot enough? My old one only got up to 225*

When you use an electric smoker, do you have to add wood throughout the smoking process or only at the beginning? I have one, but have only used it a couple times.

I only add it at the beginning and keep the top vent almost totally closed. That way it doesn't get so smoky as to become unpleasant to eat.

I think that's been my problem, I left the top vent too open. All the smoke ran out so I added more wood chips

If you buy an AMNPS from Amazin Products instead of the chip loader on the masterbuilt, you don't have to worry about adding wood because the pellet tray lasts 11 hours. It also produces a far superior smoke than the shitty chip tray.
Used masterbuilts for awhile, only way to go with them. I switched to a Cookshack clone which is the top of the line in electrics and regret my decision because electrics just are not that good, they are just easy. If you want easy and quality on par with big green eggs, get a good pellet smoker.

My experience with the master built is that it smokes the wood chips in a tray placed underneath a heating element, and that heating element is also used to heat the box..so after it teaches the desired temperature, the element turns off and stops smoking. You don't get nearly as much smoke as with those you can with a charcoal grill. If you want more smoke, you need to stop the smoker and let it cool down then add more chips and then when the element comes back on it will start smoking again.

And that is why you get this, the AMNPS never stops smoking. You don't want thick white smoke coming out though. You are just looking for that whispy blue smoke that is barely visible. This does that perfectly.

The 5x8 fits perfectly in masterbuilts. Image I found on google, don't have any of my old setup.

This. When I had my Masterbuilt smoker i used AMNPS along with the mailbox mod. I upgraded to a Kamado Joe earlier this year.

pellet fed is where it's at now. 40# Bags of pellets can be bought at Walmart for less than $20 now. That 40# bag will last you for months if used regularly. Pellets disintegrate into nothing. No cleanup afterwards as far as ashes go. I had a Masterbilt propane and electric. Sold both of them. I use a pellet fed grill now that has a smoker function. I know they make purpose build pellet fed smokers now.

Hadn't seen that one before, still wish I would of gone pellet this last time.

it's best of everything tbh. Kamado grill that'll go to 600 degrees or will hold a steady smoking temp for days if you want it to.

How exactly does that work? You light the pellets or it has a heat source?

You light one end of the pellets with a torch. Need to make sure you get good airflow in the masterbuilt to keep them burning. Heat source for temp is still done by the element in the masterbuilt.
Smoking meat forums is a good place to discuss it. They really pimp the AMNPS and know how to get good airflow on every model of masterbuilt.
