Search turned up nothing...
Student Forgets shotgun in truck
Most members of the Johnston County community, just southeast of Raleigh believe the 18-year-old is paying far too big a price for an honest mistake. Withrow had been skeet shooting with friends a day before, and only noticed he had left his shotgun in his truck on Monday morning as he reached to grab his book bag, said family friend Kimberly Boykin. When he realized his mistake, rather than leave school grounds, he went to the front office to call his mother for help.

It's pretty sad. There wasn't a day that I went to school from the 8th grade on that I I didn't have a knife on me. Pretty certain I had a shotgun in my truck many times after hunting.

Kid does the "adult" and responsible thing and is punished....
These zero tolerance policies that throw common sense and good judgement out the window are dumb as shite

Pussification of America.
I used to leave my gun in the truck all the time then go hunting after school.

I'd have driven home instead bc I knew the school would F it up.
Give them a chance to F it up and they always do.

Damn...it's only been 8 years since I was in highschool and I almost always had either a shotgun or my deer rifle behind the seat of my truck.
This shite is getting ridiculous.

I started a thread, I think, a couple months back about this type of situation. Many times I brought a gun to school in my truck after a hunt or just didn't give a shite it was still behind the seat.

I hate what this country is becoming.
I used to change into my hunting clothes in the parking lot at school and drive straight to the hunting club with my rifle behind my seat.
I hope this event doesn't knock this kid off of the good road he has made for himself

We shot doves on our football field in the 80's. I never didn't have a gun in my truck at school. Pussification is right.

Amen.
They think shielding kids from supposed "dangerous things" will make them better. All it really does is prevent them learning responsibility and realizing that not everyone is a winner.

Dude shouldn't have said anything.
I can't tell you how many times I did that in high school. Hell I've been having a pistol in my truck at work in a gun free zone for the last year

I agree that he should've stayed silent...
But that is the exact reason this whole thing is outrageous. He tried to be honest and do the "right" thing when he could've kept his mouth shut.

Back in the 60's our high school teachers went hunting with us and we went with them after school. We all had our guns in the cars. Opening day of dove season was a big day for us. And you know what? NO ONE got out of line, NO ONE ever threatened anybody with a gun, and NO ONE ever shot any students or teachers. And NO ONE panicked or complained because some of us students and some of the teachers had guns in their vehicles. Back in those days, if an Adam Lanza had tried to kill or did kill a bunch of students, someone, probably a teacher or a couple of teachers, would have run to their car, loaded up, and dropped him.
