I got a lab/pyrenees puppy, 4 months old, and was wanting to get an e-collar for her. I would like something that is waterproof, battery that will last 3 days, bark collar function, and noise. I don't think I will ever need anything with more than a mile range and maybe not even that much.

So if any of you have any collar recommendations or advice using one I am all ears.

EDIT: Picture, after trying to eat an old candle.

If you want the best get a Tritronics (now made by Garmin). The latest model of the Classic 70 has a bark option.

I agree with tritronics. Have always used them on my hunting dogs, they get drug through mud, snow, creeks, dead animal hides etc. Never had a minutes trouble with any of them. Just remember that mile range is on flat ground with no trees. You start adding in terrain and trees and it will drop.

I have been running Dogtra on my dogs for years. I have bought 2, 2 dogs units over 12 year. All are still working perfectly with only a battery change a couple of times. Waterproof, dog proof, I can't speak highly enough of them.

What model? And that tritronics is a little bit more than I was hoping to spend. I have $200 budgeted.

What I used is not what you need, I used the 2502. Check out the Dogtra ARC Remote Training Collar System. Price on this unit is ~$235

quote:

The Dogtra ARC ("Advanced Receiver Concept") is a 3/4 mile range training collar that is expandable to a 2-dog system. The transmitter features a rheostat/volume style dial with stimulation levels 0-127. This is a low to medium stimulation system with nick (momentary), continuous, and non-stimulating pager vibration modes. The transmitter features a non-slip checkered grip and an LCD display. The collar is slim-designed, and made to fit close to the dog's neck. Both the collar and transmitter are fully waterproof, and rechargeable with 2-hour rapid charge Lithium Polymer batteries. The included charger and splitter allow for the collar and handheld transmitter to charge simultaneously.

Sportdog wetland hunter. Train a lot of it's last 5 years and still going.

Is this your first dog to train yourself?

Garmin delta sport. I had a sportdog one before this that crapped out on me. Also has the bark mode but I've never had to use it on my dog.

Yes, every other dog I have had has been a small dog.

I've been in your shoes before. Are you training just for OB or gun dog training?

I have the Garmin Tri-Tronics Sport Pro that I bought back in October. It has an LED on the collar that I can turn off and on with the remote. It's pretty awesome because I can keep track of my pointer while he runs around in the woods or just in my back yard and it doesn't burn much battery at all and it's pretty damn bright. Also has a built in bark limiter and flashing lights indicate how many times he has barked since you turned the collar on.

We have taken her to the range and she doesn't mind the firing but I don't do enough dog hunting as is (read, I've never been hunting with a dog) but I want something where I can go walk around in the woods and know the dog won't get too far gone.

I couldn't imagine that mix going too far, mostly likely will be stuck to you like glue

Tritronics also. Been using them for years on hunting dogs to break from running "trash".

What is your opinion on an e-collar for a semi trained golden who isn't a hunting dog? He's about to be 2.

We used the educator e-collar for our GSP, she did very well on it.

This is the one we used. If you get outside 1/2mile you probably should invest in GPS.

If you are going to continue training him it is a great idea, just watch a few videos on how to properly use them with commands.

Went with this one. The usps tracking said it is on my front doorstep currently.
