There seems so be some pretty strong opinions on both sides of the fence regarding conservation groups like these. Do you support any of them? Why or why not?

I'd like to start donating to one, as I'm back in the south and will be bird hunting again, but I'm not sure where my money would be best spent. Are there any smaller, more local groups similar to these mega orgs?

All i know is that a lot of money has been given to or raised for those organizations and I can't see how duck hunting has gotten any better.

Take whatever money you were going to donate and build or buy nesting boxes. I quit DU years ago and help the local ducks by building and installing nesting boxes where I hunt.

I'm a member of DU. I think they do a lot of good for ducks as a whole. Probably not so good for duck hunters, specifically in South Louisiana. With that being said, they do spend a lot of money on marsh restoration projects in coastal Louisiana.

no hate on any conservation organization from me.

What I do like about Delta is no money is spent on private land development. They do predatory management in the pot hole region as well as hen houses " duck production" as they like to call it. Delta is also instrumental in the fight for access to public hunting grounds and the promotion/development of youth or 1st time duck hunters.

the local chapters also get a % of $$ back from the fundraising to invest in their local ideas or projects such as the weevil project to fight against Salvinia, youth events/ veteran hunts, or putting radio transmitters on Speckled belly geese and other water fowl to learn more about yearly migration patterns and such and Wood duck boxes just to name a few.

Again I have no opinion on the other organizations, I just found that Delta waterfowl was a fit for me and my son (12) whom I have raised in the field. I was not a hunter growing up so bringing kids and grown men as well on 1st hunts is a special thing to me now.

Doesn't Delta also work to control predators in the nesting grounds?

They still do the banquets where everybody gets utterly annihilated on free crown and coke and then gets into auction battles over $40 duck prints and end up emptying their kids' college funds???

It is my money. If I want to spend it cause some big titty hooker blows a duck call with her tongue, then dammit I’ll spend it and my kid can get a minority scholarship like everyone else

All your money goes to the heated ponds up north to keep the ducks up there

It's a sham. Take your money and spend it on a duck puppy and training.

My uncle was chapter president when I was like 13. It was some my first exposures to adults just getting flat out ignorant with alcohol and money.

I imagine if they still do those banquets, they’re a shell of what they were back then. Haven’t heard shite about DU in like 15+ years.

Of DU? I’m in LC.

As someone mentioned above, I too was once a young green wing attending DU banquets and had a chuckle remembering how belligerent the normally highly “respectable” members would get. Good times as a kid.

Delta waterfowl. The banquet is normally the Thursday before Teal season. You definitely need to come check it out next year.
