Mowing around the pond today and saw this duck. Closest thing I can find to it is a Red-crested Pochard in summer plumage.

Based on the beak, some kind of nasty diver. Nice camera work.

Damn El Niño weather!
Argentina birds headed north?
Choot em and put it on the wall as a white cheeked pintail.

I have not seen many whistling ducks but I don’t think they have red eyes

Agreed but I can't find anything online that has the other characteristics with the red eyes. May just be an oddball Whistler?

I have no idea but the Pochard looked to be the closest

I wonder if it’s a hybrid. I’d say that it for sure isn’t a native species.

I’m sure someone is raising them and releasing them. Probably why it looked like it had a band on its leg.

Probably a zoo duck. Most of them have clipping duck wings so they can’t fly pretty low on the to do list so I imagine if a dip shite diving duck decides to leave free groceries, water, and friends to go see what’s like on the outside world, the zoo probably gives zero fricks.
