Oh heck yea. They have taken over my two wood duck boxes that have had wood ducks use them every sling for 20 + years. Louisiana needs to open that season.

Had 3 messikan squealers flying to every hole in the 4 old pecan trees on the neighboring property this morning. It must be getting time?

Those are starting to land on mine. I saw one baby woodie which is really odd. A hen then removed an egg from that box. Ever since then, woodie activity has gone down. Not sure what to make of all this.

I’ve had four laying in my boxes for over three weeks, it’s late to start now.

Told my 90yr old neighbor today them squealers are protected species ( only open during duck season). Them squealers are perched on her porch rail eating out the bird feeder. She said “ducks don’t perch like that!” and gave me that you’re crazy look! Pew pew pellet. I did tell her they eat good, sizable drumsticks

A second brood just jumped this morning. Nine new puff balls for the already loaded bayou. It's been a really busy season.

Want some fun. Get you a solar powered electric fence charger. Attach wire indulators around wood or metal post then wrap it with electrical fence wire like stripes on a candy cane Let a coon, snake or other varmit try climbing the post. Set up you a deer cam for vids or pics. Lol

Thanks haha. I just had to change username-- I didnt realize when i signed up everyone uses alter egos/anonymous names.

Not sure what I was thinking using my real name to sign up in the first place, but live and learn.

We got a late start this year...put up a pair of boxes in early May...these guys showed up the same day...I haven't been spending much time at the pond, so I don't know if they stayed...

I have a couple boxes running right now. But, I do want to try my hand at building a few more myself. I saw this link posted above.

Ducks Unlimited Duck Box Build

Looking for feedback. For those that have built and placed in south LA, do you prefer cypress or cedar in your experience for a homemade box? For either one, any places you could point me to in south LA that may have those 1 x 10 x 12’ boards for sale?

I noticed some baby wood ducks cutting grass last weekend so I sat up in a spot this morning hoping to catch some pictures. I think something got every one of them. Saw 8 different hens and 4 drakes but no little ones.
