Good lord. For $35k you can get a 2014 Tundra, less than 10k miles, 4X4, crew cab SR5 with options.
ETA
Here's a few examples of ten times the truck for approximately the same price:

Are people really getting this off domestic full size trucks? Say a 2015 F150 lariat?
Most I've seen is $10k. That's about how much my truck was marked down.

Tundra is a great truck
If I NEEDED a full size... I would have gotten a full-size
If I wanted something that got 10 mpg in town and 15mpg on the hwy I would have kept my 400 hp '72 RoadRunner that turned 11 sec 1/4 miles :)

I have no problems with this argument.
I'm more or less baffled by the manufacturers. Less raw materials. Smaller components. Lower strength parts. Etc. Same cost.

Probably trying to judge what people will pay for them. Who knows the production costs of a Canyon vs Sierra? They might be around the same, and GM is trying to push people to justify spending the extra $5-10k on the 1500

have had a new Colorado for over 3 months now.
JMHO having owned both the Tacoma and the Colorado, both V-6,4-wheel drive versions.
If you want crappy gas mileage, a terrific engine with a chassis that is made for four wheeling go with the Taco.
Of course expect to change the water pump at 120K miles (no biggie), un-fixable driveline vibrations if you put ANYTHING larger than the stock tires on. Potential driveline shudder at low rpm that is roughly the same as driving a manual with a clutch thats gone. Oh and mileage that sucks for a V-6 vehicle, even brand new. I won't even get into the whole frame-rust issues that have been an ongoing issure for many. But resale is the best of any vehicle out there,FWIW.
With the Colorado you get a world -class interior, terrific ride (not quite as good as a full-size, but close). A gutsy engine, transmission that just needs the newest factory reflash to update the better transmission shift points. Better ride, more towing capacity and as you said before, the ability to actually park in a spot w/o packing it in like a sardine into a can.
As for mpg I get roughly 17-18 city and 24-26 highway. Thats driving 75-79 miles an hour mind you. Ain't a full-size made (except maybe the diesel Dodge) ,that will touch that.
Drove out to Texarkana from Upstate,S.Carolina Labor Day wknd. For the trip averaged 24.8mpg.
Made the same exact trip with my Tacoma back in 2010 and averaged 19.8.
5 mpg may not sound like much but thats 105 miles more range at hwy speeds.
As for price I paid 34,5K for the V-6,Z-71 with bose/nav and donut-maker.
Great info thank you!
I drive 1000 miles a month to and from work so fuel economy is a top priority, hence me looking at mid sized.
I can't find anyone that says they get 28-30 in their full size trucks. The guys at work all say get the full size as well...
By the way I have a 2008 Nissan rogue with 138k miles for sale, I will give you a great deal

If you can wait you may want to let the diesel Coloorado's/Canyon start hitting the market. There is going to be a huge buying surge on them and that may allow a better deal on the gas version.
Price difference between it and the V-6 Rado/Canyon will be about 3K, not counting any dealer attempts at upcharging for the diesel.
I'm guessing the diesel version will net about 20 in town and 30 on the hwy.

They can be ordered now, none on the lots though, I thought the upcharge was 3800

It's quite possible to get a lariat for 7-10k off here in Houston. I was able to get right at 10k on my platinum off sticker with 0%/72.

The only truck touching that is the Ram eco diesel, although I have seen people claiming in the mid 20s with the Ford 2.7l ecoboost.

I did not see any 2016 gmc/chevy half tons trucks , they are looking to unload the old models and are willing to deal. Thought the new titans looked good.
I suppose too with the oi downturn in our area they may need to move vehicles.

Since they sell a shite ton more of the full sized trucks, all costs (research, development, tooling the assembly line etc etc etc) gets amortized on many more units resulting in less costs per unit to manufacture.
Ever wonder why a military spec hammer costs $400 vs your basic hammer at true value?

It is, but the V-6 option is about $800 over the base so the actual difference is 3K

woman on my facebook sells GMC at Courtesy. every post for the past 3 months have been about "fantastic" sales, deals, last day to take advantage of savings, etc.
that being said, I've never seen her post about anything LESS than 10k off sticker on a full size truck and never saw her post about anything off the Canyons. my cousin paid the same for his canyon that I paid for my 1500 and we get about the same MPG.
so take all that FWIW.

2016 Nissan Frontier. Had best engine imo,low-to- no tech. Decent ride.
One of these with a bilstein andvtitan arm swap is the way to go. You can get them in the 23ish range if you buy from a volume dealer.
That v6 is a stout motor.

I have received quotes from Chevy/GMC for 500 below invoice. I am leaning toward the GMC, a bit better finished on the interior.

I wouldn't be surprised if the release gets pushed back thanks to VW and dieselgate
