Prayers still being sent!

I was telling my family about you and the little guy yesterday and requesting a few extra prayers, and I got the "wierdo creeper speech" too. They all did say they would add some prayers tho.

Thanks for the prayers and keep them up.

Trevor is no longer on the cooling blanket. The 72 hours of cooling is up, and the 8 hour warming period. He had a pretty good night. His vitals remained good, although his breathing did worsen slightly due to the changes. That should improve with time. He had a rough case of the hiccups last night, which were scary. They looked awfully violent for his little body. They scared Mom quite a bit, but the doctors assured us that it was normal.

Blood gases are good, liver is good, but kidneys aren't in the best shape.

Thanks so much for the update. I have been checking in a lot here and the other site hoping for good news. That is progress, that is all you can ask for.

Hiccups are actually good supposedly as it's the baby working the diaphragm. We will keep the prayers coming, for Trevor and your family.

We will pray for you.

My girls were born 6 weeks early. I know in some small way what you are going through. Hang in there and be strong for your wife and son.

Man, I just went to the site you linked and looked at the pictures of Trevor. I swear it brought tears to my eyes again. As a father, I understand the joys of parenthood. I also understand the fear and anguish you and your beautiful wife are feeling. No child should ever have that many tubes and wires connected to them! Hang in there brother. We are all thinking and praying for y'all.

Um OK. Haven't been on here in a few days. Just read the OP out loud to my wife. She is crying, I couldn't finish the post, and I literally just prayed for Trevor. I take my whole life for granted, and I my healthy 3 year old girl. Its stories like this that make me realize how fragile our worlds really are.

STAY STRONG BRO

Guys we just got home so I'll keep it short and sweet. We were discharged tonight after 4 nights. Leaving Trevor at the hospital was probably the hardest thing I've ever done. It is so hard to keep a strong front while your heart is being shredded, but I knew I had to, to keep my wife sane.she's doing great other than the crying and blood pressure a little on the high side.

Trevor is doing well right now. He handled the warming process like the fighter he has proven to be. Big days are right ahead; EEG tomorrow, followed by an MRI within the next 1-2 days.

Keep the prayers coming. I truly believe I'm witnessing a miracle in the making.

Prayers sent to your wife and your family.

quote:

The main thing we are worried about now is the neurological effect the down time had on him. He's on a cooling blanket now and pretty sedated, so they can't determine much now, but the EEG have looked positive so far.

How many weeks early was he? Like to the day?? Im asking because neonate EEGs are very tricky... somewhat discontinuous and inconsistant. Even if it is not "normal" now, dont get discouraged because until a certain number of weeks of conceptual age it will show abnormal maturation

Did they say anything about diffuse activity, persistant low voltage, or any sort of burst suppression activity?? Also, any sorts of meds he may be on will affect the EEG.

Sorry for all of the questions, I worked with neonates last semester in my clinicals and I enjoyed it... Let me know if you need any clarification as far as the EEG goes. Neurology is a very STRANGE field and you see miracles everyday!! Sounds like he is a fighter and truly a blessing!

Good luck and I will continue to follows yalls progress!

He was 35 weeks 6 days. He was a big baby at 6lbs 15oz.

I'm not sure about all the medical terms from the EEG. The neurologist and neonatalogist looked at it and explained it to me in layman's terms. They should be doing another one this morning and we should see the results today.
