Thanks guys. We had a pretty good day. My wife got moved to a room. Trevor is still in NICU (will be for a while) on some new technology they have; some kind of cooling pad to keep his body temp low. They'll keep him on that until tomorrow night and then start to warm him up. Wait and see right now.

I appreciate all the kind words, thoughts, and prayers.

Prayers sent.

Perspective indeed. For me family is the car that drives my love and enjoyment for the outdoors.

Keep us updated man

Like someone stated in bakersman thread on the OT, keeps us updated and print this thread off and keep it somewhere safe and when he is old enough to see how much of a fighter he was, let him read the thread

You got it man. Things will work out. Just stay positive for everyone and hold it together. You can lose your shite out in the woods after everything gets back to normal. Or as normal as having a new baby at home can be.

Slick,

As you may know, I have been in charge of the care for both mom and baby in similar situations many times. There are never words that can calm all of the fears or concerns of the father and family. Managing those cases and supporting the families through them are some of the most challenging and rewarding parts of my job.

Cettainly, your situation has been scary and extremely taxing. My prayers are with you and your family as you all recover from this. Although, none of the following should supercede what the physicians caring for your wife and child advise, there are a few positives you should know.

In general, cerebral hypoxia (lack of oxygenated blood to the brain) in a newborn is MUCH better tolerated for a longer period of time without permenant damage than it is in adults, teens, and even children.

Deliveries at 36 weeks or greater generally don't present significantly increased risks to the infant. Lung maturity is the biggest issue and is usually far enogh along by 36 weeks. It sounds like trevors lungs are doing ok now.

Make sure to ask about Trevors reflexes as these are the best indicator of his neurological status, short of am eeg, at this young age.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on this thread or by email. I'm cc'd in the emails that went around last night.

Once again my prayers and thoughts are with you

You and your family will be in my families prayers.

In a few years I will be looking forward to a "Me and Trevor in the stand" thread.

Thanks BP. He was 35 weeks, 6 days. The EEGs have been positive, not normal, but positive for his situation. His second one looked a little better than his first, so there has been improvement. No seizure activity, so that is a big positive.

His lungs were pretty bad off at first, but have improved tremendously. They had to give him some surfactin (sp?) to keep him going and have slowly been weaning him off the ventilator. The oxygen is as low as they can turn it and its only breathing for him 15 times per minute.

Got company, so I'm gonna run for now. I'll update ya'll later. Thanks for the prayers.

Prayers to you and your family. Infants are amazingly resilient. I hope and pray that the little fellow grows to be a healthy happy young man.

My twins were born a month early. Each weighed almost 4 pounds. They each could easily fit in a shoe box. THe a healthy and happy today. Keep the faith and best of luck to you and yours.

Holy shite man. Will be thinking of you...

Maybe this nugget will help...I was born two months early. Heart kept stopping and like Trevor low or no pulse rate. They wrote me off several times. Mom and dad too worried about the effects to my brain. I am 6'4"and and healthy as can be. Id say I turns d out normal but it would be a lie. Hehe. Stay positive. Its amazing to be this far.
