I had no idea those plants were poisonous. Never cared for them anyway so now they sure won't have a spot in my flower beds.

What Aubie said.

Aubie, aren't you a vet? My vet seems to have a good outlook. Saw him tonight at the ball fields. Says he hasn't eaten but is drinking water. Plus, the dog has beat cancer twice. Once in is front left leg and the second time in his nuts.

Have you seen many cases of the sago poisoning? If so, what route do you normally take

UPDATE:

Tank came home yesterday. Hasn't been sick once, but not eating. Gave him some ham mixed in with his food at lunch, but hasn't eaten yet. Vet called at 3pm to check up, says if he isn't eating it's probably best to bring him in for another round of steroids and IV.

Think this is my buddy's last days unfortunately

Frick sago palms, hate to hear that OP. I had 3 in my front yard for awhile but never had an issue luckily. My vet is a good friend and he actually helped me move in, and told me to take them out then so I took out one of 3 or 4 with the uhaul bumper. But dang I wish he would of really been more straightforward about them. They are crazy dangerous, know many a pets that have barely swallowed any of it and its killed them.

Good luck to you OP, hopefully he'll pull through.

Hang in there. He can go without eating for sometime.

Make sure he hydrates.

He's going to be ok.

Did your vet perform any bloodwork? Only way to tell extent of damage. Sago palms cause severe damage to liver and can lead to acute liver failure. Repeating bloodwork is only way to monitor response to treatment. I personally would not recommend steroids as they can't be contraindicated if the liver is compromised. Aggressive IV fluids, antibiotics, anti-emetics, liver supplements, and time is the best bet. Your liver is one of the most regenerative organs in the body. It can take a hit and recover but takes time.

Why would he die now? That's a weird thing to say. If he's on an iv and under vet care, I don think the poison would still be a factor, right.

Yes he has done blood work and he mentioned checking it again just to make sure. I thought he said steroids but maybe not

I did grill a plain chicken breast a little while ago and he ate that. Made sure he drank afterwards too.

Just said may be his last days because bull dogs normally don't have a long life expantcy and he turns 12 in July. Once older animals stop eating it's normally not good.

If your vet sent him home with no particular instructions, then I guess that he feels okay about the situation. If the boy is not eating or drinking, he obviously wants to keep him hydrated, so he wants to give him an IV to prevent dehydration.

I would say that if he ate a chicken breast, that is a very good sign. Hang in there for your buddy and your family, man.

Make him the blandest chicken soup possible. Chicken, carrots, rice, and preferably make the broth yourself, no seasoning. He will gobble that shite up. It was my pups last meal (hopefully not yours) but he enjoyed the frick out of it.

I was going to say this. Broth with rice and some veggies for nutrients. Maybe a little ground meat added in.

Hope he recovers.

That's what we give Boots when her stomach is bad...it helps tremendously.

What veggies? I heard green beans are good...what other ones? I'd love to find that out too.

put some sago seeds in front of him again just for a social experiment if he's learned his lesson.

Hope your pup pulls through man. My sister lost her boxer a few years ago after he ate a sago. She brought him home and he lived for good while, but she spent lots of $ on meds each month and his liver eventually failed. It was tough to watch him deteriorate the way he did.
