Daughter will be walking by the spring so exploring options for the 50' of bulkhead that we have at the camp.

I really don't want to build a permanent fence that is an eye sore, has to be weed eated, gets in the way when loading/unloading boats and fish, etc

Swinging fence is not an option due to the elevated walk way that leads from camp to dock.

Basically I just want to do a temporary fence that is only used when she is outside

This is the best option I have found online so far, I would obviously have to purchase two of them.

Just wondering if the OBE has any other ideas or recs. The cheapest option would be to just get a roll of 50' mesh but I don't know if the wife will go for that look

I was thinking invisible fence, but his daughters opposable thumbs means she could potentially remove the collar.

in no way would I think that "fence" would stop a toddler with a full head of steam

you could build a little 4' picket fence for less than the cost of that as well, it would look better, be sturdier, and wouldn't be too hard to take down in a few years

its either that or your wife hovering over your kid every time she is outside

You could clip it to your toddler's belt loop

Don’t go cheap. It’s not worth taking a chance. Decent aluminum with pool code locks on gates

I understand your concern but you have to put the fear of God in them in regards to "that" water.

After raising numerous labs and 2 dingbat kids on the bayouside, just need to let them know that that particular body of water is not for them.

Or get her a shock collar!

Buy a border collie. Let it see you corral your kid in a specific area for a little while and it’ll figure out the job pretty quick.

She will absolutely never be left unsupervised downstairs but we are at the camp every weekend year round other than LSU games or vacation so she is going to be a camp gal. I think her first trip to the sandbar was around 6 weeks (with a fan and tent) and not once all summer did we have to leave early because of her.

Thanks all for the suggestions

I think I'm going to just do a temporary permanent picket fence and pull it down in a few years

A makeshift fence may be one of the worst things that can be done because of the false sense of security.

Number one cause of death for children under 4 is drowning. A young child drowning is nothing like movies/tv where they are bobbing up and down gasping for help. They sink and its nothing but silence.

Personally I wouldn't want a toddler staying at a place that has immediate access to water. It would have to be a permanent fence and even then I'm still watching the kid like a hawk because people become complacent and leave gates open. Older kids don't understand the consequences of not closing a gate.

A survival swimming class would be the best solution. Not inexpensive but toddlers can be taught to tread water fairly quickly by a good teacher.
