Do you clean your fish/game before giving it away?

A post on another board raised this question. I give away a lot of trout and have been given a lot of meat from offshore trips. I have never given somebody a box of fish that needed to be cleaned and I have never given away ducks that needed to be cleaned.

I have also never had anyone try to give uncleaned fish or game to me.

The only exception is being at the dock and giving away a few to somebody because I didn't catch much and didn't feel like dirtying the knife.

Apparently I am in the minority.

I don't give much away because I'll eat off of it for the year, but I do clean what I give away.

If I go fishing with a few friends a lot of times I'll let them keep the fish. If they keep them I always offer to help them clean them. Except for the few trips where I tell them before hand that I got something to do that evening and am not keeping any fish. If they want to keep them, they're on their own cleaning them.

The deer meat I do give away is always cleaned, de-boned, and packaged though.

I'll sometimes give my buddy fish whole if they catch plenty and I don't catch much and his aren't cleaned yet.

I've given away a whole deer once. The guy insisted I let him cut it up himself. He has a certain way he likes it done that I still haven't figured out. I helped him wrap it.

Otherwise, I give away wrapped frozen meat.

I give away ducks every morning uncleaned. Most of the fish is cleaned. I have given away uncleaned fish at times, esp when I have way to many to clean, but I let them pick the ones & amount they want. Just do them a favor & make sure they have a Lic when you give them unclean fish/game. I have seen people get busted at the launch for taking fish that someone gave them & they did not have a Lic.

No. It's always cleaned unless it's a "hey man you want these ____________" (4 trout, 1 duck, etc. )

I give relatives venison that's been processed. I've split a deer with a member at the camp and helped skin it also.

Usually don't give fish away but when I do, it's been cleaned.

I have friends that ask me for fish all the time uncleaned. Usually they can't fish.

I give them to them.

Those who don't know how or can't clean them I give fillets.

All cleaned and usually vacuum sealed with the exception of hogs. I kill so many and there is so much good meat that all head shot hogs I choose to give are offered whole. Occassionally someone gets lucky though like the guys at the arky game who got the 50 lb sow all cleaned and dressed on ice ready to cook

I absolutely would never give anyone I know fish or game that needed cleaning. If I did, I'm certain they'd never tackle it and let it go to waste.

back home, if we didnt want to clean it for whatever reason (trash ducks or only got/caught a few), we gave it to gentleman of the opposite race

i'm confident it did not go to waste

Like most of the posters already stated when I give away meat it has been clean, packed, and ready to go.
