There's a couple suggestions of tacti-rifles, the FN was one, or looked like it has a heavy barrel.
Honestly it ain' t my strong suit.

While it depends on your hunting area and especially distances, I'm a huge fan of 7x57 (7mm Mauser) caliber for deer and similar sized game. Lots of options among custom and semi-custom rifle makers that can spec any caliber you want.
Some will argue that it's a bit harder to buy off the shelf ammo for the 7x57 and thus should preclude it for consideration. If that's a sticking point for you, the .308 has similar performance.
I buy custom loaded ammo for my hunting rifles (Superior Ammunition). I've never gotten into self loading and I feel that consistent performance from ammo is under-appreciated by most hunters. This may not matter to the average whitetail hunter, but it matters if you climb a mountain to reach your prey or take a 20 hour plane ride to reach your prey.
Overall, I'm a fan of McMillan stocked rifles. I like their actions too. Swarovski or Scmidt and Bender glass tops my list.

I'm contemplating selling my tikka next year for a ruger.

Oh, I didn't notice the date.

I missed the date too.
Oh well. So much for my lengthy post.
Caliber discussion for deer, huh?
7x57 is my favorite. Would like to have a .257 Roberts.

Sako 85 isn't any heavier than a remmy bdl I would imagine.
To the Op, it really depends if you are going to hunt with this thing most of the time. If not, I enjoy getting calibers that not everyone has. 264 win mag or 257 wby are great long range choices. And they are freaking smoking was fast.
If this will actually be your hunting rifle, stick with the 270

I cut a hell of a deal on used guns for good people. I recently sold an immaculate T3 .25-06 with Leupold rings for $400. The .30-06 is stainless and newer so it won't be as cheap. I
My tikka is a damn fine rifle. I've just come to the conclusion that I just cannot do clips on hunting rifles. I've owned 6 rifles in my life with detachable magazines and I've sold all of them but this one, and it's going to leave soon. I've never sold a gun that didn't have a removabl magazine.

I prefer a hinged floor plate myself.

I definitely prefer a hinged floor plate. I killed my first several deer with a Mauser 96.
Despite it being as practical as a rifle can get (light, accurate great trigger, fast reloads, weather proof) I just can't do the stainless/plastic/clip setup.

I have a Sako A7 I bought my old man with a Meopta Meostar on it, he told me to hunt with it, and it's got that softer synthetic stock. I scratched it all up walking through cut over trailing a deer. So I need to get something else. I prefer the detachable magazine over a hinged floor plate, that's the only reason I haven't bought a Winchester.

.26 Nosler Glad I bought it. I absolutely love this gun.

Same here. I love that feature on my Browning A-bolt. Keep the loaded mag in my pocket then just pop it in once in the stand. I hate having to drop a floor plate and catch all the loose rounds.

Glad to hear y'all like the clipazines. Maybe it'll make the tikka easy to sell

Nope. '06 not glamorous enough.

I'm serious, let me know when you're ready to buy that Ruger.
