I’ve done it a few times, my oldest shot the only deer we took over a long weekend in a heavy rain, what’s the OB experiences? Trying to calibrate my Saturday night drinking based on whether I’m getting up at 4:45 or not.

I REALLY like it, now that I have really good rain gear.

As long as there's little chance of lightning, I'm going.

My uncle killed a 130” 10pt in the 80’s in pouring rain. It was the first season he hunted deer. Everyone was at the camp laughing as he left on his 110 honda 3wheeler. Sat on a lean too with his 30-06 in a poncho and the 10pt walked out 15 mins later. He drives up to the camp with the buck and asked “whats all this mess about how hard deer hunting is?” He said he never saw a deer like it again. Ha!

Some of the most activity we saw this year was in a heavy dew one morning.

I've thrown out what everyone says. Bottom line is you just never know!

Years ago my good buddy got to his stand before daylight in the light rain.
Saw nothing until about 8:00
The rain stopped and right in front of him about 35 yards away a big nice buck stood up and shook off like a dog.
It was there the whole time.

I actually love hunting in a steady rain....not a storm.

I always have 2 stands with roof tops.....animals move in the rain, and they really move after the rain stops....good time to be out there.

I can’t say that they move better or worse. I’ve got two plush box stands and one has a shingle roof. I can’t think of anything more relaxing than sitting in that stand in the rain on a cold morning. I’ve killed plenty in the rain but I thinks it’s because I stay longer on those days.

2 weeks ago I woke up contemplating leaving the house or not bc it called for light rain. Well I went and got drizzled on all the way to the stand. Got in stand and it started pouring. I thought to myself I’ve never seen deer move in a heavy down pour. Soon after I look down one on my lanes and see a nice buck about 150 yards and I try a neck shot to not have to track and missed. Needless to say I haven’t seen much over my years of hunting in the heavy rain but just like that day you just never know. Tomorrow is calling for heavy rains we’ll before daylight so I doubt I go but if you can take getting to the stand give it a go.

I killed one in November, during the rut here, as a big front was just done pouring through. I also sat in the rain all day today and didn't see jack.

Yep, a couple things happen in a rain that makes it probably the best time to hunt. To clarify, not a down pour, but a light steady rain, or off/on showers. First, the deer think it’s night time, they know it’s safe to come out, for whatever reason. Second, the atmosphere flips, and ozone is at ground level, it’s not the rain that hides your scent……also, it’s usually associated with a front, and deer love to move as that rain/front move in….Think of it this way, it’s the only time you can legally hunt deer at night……

I killed an 8 pt right after the rain broke one time during the rut. I was about to leave bc I was miserable on a ladder stand when I saw a doe running and behind her was a buck. Can’t kill them at the camp, but it still sucks sitting in the rain

I love hunting in a light rain, but if it's heavy I'm staying in bed.

Lol, ok, just seen their movement’s mimic night time movement. It’s only my observation on hunting pressured deer. Just an opinion…

Son killed biggest buck in a downpour. We were hanging out at the in-laws about 330 one afternoon and clouds were rolling in. Son asked if I wanted to go sit in the box stand behind the house. Hauled butt back there as the bottom dropped out. Poured for 30 minutes and got real dark. Still raining good and looked up and a good buck was 20 yards in front us crossing. Luckily the rain masked our sound because we weee banging around trying to get the windows open and fun out the window

Get in your stand right before the rain lets up and you have a chance. Last year I hunted (exactly where I’m hunting right now) over a food plot and got out there at 8am after a hard rain

Killed a nice 10 point about 45 minutes later.

I like it because it dampens your scent and makes you quiet in the woods

Best buck was shot in a constant drizzle/misty rain.

Rain or not, hot or cold, deer have to move and eat. If you’re at home, you have zero chance of seeing/shooting.

I’ve heard some say our scent molecules cling to damp air even more so. Whatever is true, I’ll hunt in any condition.

Totally agree about the quiet aspect, I love when leaves and twigs don’t crunch as loudly.
