So I think this deer that I took a picture of in 2017 is the same deer I decided to shoot Friday. I thought he would develop a nice rack after first seeing him. Last year he appeared to be a 4 pointer the few times I saw him. Well Friday when I saw him I thought he was still a 4 point because I could not make out the brow tines. He was 252 yds away when I shot him. He was a big body deer but I think he may have been going down from a rack perspective .

2017

What do you think? Same deer?

That’s what I am thinking also. Wish he had not had the brow tines. Would have been a nice 4 pt.

Congrats on a Bucket list buck for me.
I want a Big mature 4.5-5.5yr old fork horn or 6.

Bonus picture of a young buck behind my house today. This picture was taken standing on my back porch.

Congrats. The deer in the OP is hardly a coil buck (anyone follow Mississippi Whitetails group should know what a coil is).

That deer in the post above would be the deer of a lifetime for me. 30+ years of deer hunting all I ever see is spikes and scraggly broke dick prong horns.

What county do you hunt? Putting out mineral supplements in the spring and summer can help antler development tremendously in areas with poorer soils. Age is probably the biggest factor though.
Ride through Wears Valley in the Smokey Mountains and you will see how important age is on deer racks. That area is nothing special in terms of soil composition or quality browsing areas but the one thing it does have is mature deer. And there are deer with some nice antlers because people are not shooting the dominant bucks and thus they are doing a majority of the breeding.

No idea if it's the same buck, but looks to be an old buck. Good choice to take him.

I think it’s probably the same deer. Congrats on the kill. Not often you see a 6 pt that size always impressed with a big 6.

Webster Co. for 15 years now. Almost all pine plantation. There’s a few decent deer in there. But across the board it’s pretty abysmal. This year I hardly even saw any does. Almost all spikes and button bucks.

I got a friend who hunts Webster Co. The problem there is that everyone shoots everything and a lot of dog hunters.

Yup. I don’t doubt that. And probably plenty being shot at night judging by all the spotlights mounted on top of trucks.

I guess that’s what you get when the land is cheap.
