That buck is a grown as man! May not have the huge rack but definitely an alpha. Good kill congrats!
ETA Just to be clear I think it's a beautiful rack and would not turn my nose to it. OP just said he thought it was decent

I know, but I did giggle at the op's expense a couple times, and I'm sure he knows the ribbing from this board is good hearted.

Anyway, back to important stuff,
1. Chet, tell us more about this deer, and the harvest story.
2. Do y'all have any single, non-smoking kings available on Thursday night?

I laughed at all of these jokes
. I saw the buck close to dark and noticed through my binoculars that his back right leg was destroyed and swinging in circles only holding on by a few tendons. I called the landowner and he said to kill it when I can (not usually allowed to kill 8 points or larger). The buck then dissapeared into the woods. 1 minute left before legal hours ended, I saw him come from the left and I took the shot and dropped him. He managed to crawl about 400 yards and we put dogs on him. Ended up finishing the job with a pistol. When we brought him back, my shot was mid body and missed all vitals and made a small exit (I think he was turned at an odd angle). I look at his wounds and someone had shot him about 3 weeks ago apparently (according to landowner) through the back left leg and the bullet shot through his nads and also destroyed his back right leg. That deer was a tough one but I am glad we put him out of his misery.
