Talking state wide. Yeah the cwd zones have it in effect and glad it is. I just can’t see it happening state wide but maybe I’m wrong.

Also I hunt less than 1% in LA so really don’t have a horse in this race.

Honestly, the only reason I feel like it will eventually happen us because folks will continue to submit their deer for inspection. We're three years into the ban in Tensas, Franklin and Madison, with no end in sight.

I never dreamed they would have been able to get it banned in those parishes.

One feed store where I shop told me the year before the ban, they sold 125,000, 50 pound bags of corn. That's a pretty big loss of income for a small store. Now compound that by all the small feed stores in those areas.

Also how or when does an area recover from a ban?

1. TSI
2. Tend to your soil
3. Plant food plots in the Fall and Spring. Perennial and Annual

Corn has ruined deer hunting and introduced more pigs and nest predators. I hate it and cant wait to get rid of it altogether.

Baiting is the cause of so many problems, I don’t know if I care whether it impacts CWD spread or not. I am glad that something seems to prompt these bans whether legitimate or not.

You mean to tell me a food source that feeds for 4 of the 12 months is enough to support hogs and nest predators for the whole year? We don't see that here in south Texas. There is just a shitload of all kinds of animals. I will bet my left nut that if all feeding were banned you wouldn't see a decrease in hog numbers or nest predators.

For your nest predators the biggest thing contributing to their increase is that no one hunts them anymore for furs or food, plain and simple.

Corn only feeds for 4 months?
Or are you talking about food plots?

I’m confused.

Also, where we DO have feeders with protein, we have large hog excluders. We rarely see hogs anymore on camera and rarely see their rooting. They just pass through.

Now, raccoons are a nest predator and we see them on every feeder, every night.

Before corn and feeders, we would see them in trees. That’s it.

I am assuming you don't feed corn year round so it's only a food source for 4 months out of the year. In other words, if you take it away it will not bring down the hog numbers or the nesting predator numbers since they are surviving without it for 8 months out of the year.

The main issue with the disease is that it’s transmitted in feeding zones. Deer do not have natural feeding zones that are 3’x3’

My point is that the hunting was better

Non-smokers have been known to die of cancer so a pack-a-day habit is no big deal….

I took the bait. I won’t argue anymore. I just really really despise, hate, abhor, loathe baiting in the game woods. Ill leave it there.

Ok

Except here the analogy would be “non smokers have cancer at a higher rate than smoker….”

CWD runs the most rampant in states that don’t allow baiting

I hunt in North Florida. I’m not a fan of baiting. I have and still kill piles of deer over piles of corn. I will until it’s banned. We spend a lot of time and money on habitat. We fed less this year than I can remember. Way less than since we tracked costs. Still saw piles of deer.

CWD to me boils down to deer density. There just aren’t enough deer killed anymore. There may be more deer than squirrels at this point. Nobody wants to shoot anything but a trophy and maybe one doe. That’s not enough. Limits and doe days need to be increased. Bottom line..Pew Pew. If a pile of corn helps, than so be it.
