Light Setup (499 grains)
2014 Elite Energy 35 65 lbs (tan w/ camo limbs)
CBE SLE4 4 pin sight
HHA Virtus
Limbsaver 5 arrow Quiver
Easton 6mm FMJ w/ 125 gr 1.75” Grim Reapers
Heavy Setup (596 grains)
2014 Elite Energy 35 70lbs (black w/ camo limbs)
CBE Tek Hybrid 3 pin sight
HHA Virtus
Limbsaver 5 arrow Quiver
Goldtip Hunter XT 300 w/ 225 gr single bevels
Traditional Setup
1976 45 lb Bear Black Bear 28” recurve
Gold Tip traditional w/ 165gr swamp sharks.
Haven’t been lucky with the trad setup as of yet. Seems when I take it, deer are beyond my comfort zone. When I have one of my compounds, I end up killing them at 15 yards or less. Hopefully this will be the year. It’s my dads old bow, just want to kill one deer with it then retire it and get a higher poundage setup.

I don’t understand you traditional baws, bow hunting is difficult enough as it is, I ain’t out here tryna make it harder.

I replied above with my Bowtechs. I also sometimes take my recurve with 150 g. Rothhaar snuffers. Just didn't see the need to mention it.

I know it’s made me a better hunter using a stickbow. I had a six point take a nap about 15 yards from me this past season while I was sitting in a ditch.
. I still have a compound though. I’ll use it in the TAC event coming up just because of the shot distances being 60-100, but it’ll go back on the shelf after that.
Hoyt Helix Ultra at 64.5#
Black Eagle Rampage
SS 58 grain Victory outserts + 50 grain brass

Hoyt RX-7 Carbon. Just got it in.
I got suckered into trying one. And then i couldn't put it down.
Now is actually a great time to buy a bow. Everyone has stock and the shops aren’t stupid busy.

As someone later in life and wanting to get into bow hunting, this thread has scared the hell out of me! I never realized how technical and different the equipment can be.

Don’t be scared, it’s like anything else.
One guy buys a $300 Remington, a blister pack scope, and a box of core lokts.
Another has a 5k custom rifle in some obscure cartridge, a 3k scope, and hand loaded bullets.
Both kill deer, just different people doing the same thing differently.

Let it do the opposite. Get excited about all the different setups you can get into that all do the same thing. There’s so much customization, but in the end as long as you choose a legal setup, it’ll kill deer.

It’s a rabbit hole for sure. Be careful doing generic searches for things like “broadhead tuning” or “what arrow setup should I use?” While the internet is a great tool, there is soooo much bad information out there regarding all things archery.
