Not really responding to you per se, I had posted in another thread about this. This whole debate is interesting to me. I'm from here but hunt in Wisconsin and they've had legal crossbows longer and there is no stigma there. Now you mention bait piles and they freak out. I think it really boils down to increased pressure and eroding away the time of almost no pressure on public lands. They don't deal with access/pressure issues like we do and with the abundance of food there I can see the stigma on food.
Leaving next Saturday for two weeks up there with my crossbow and have no concern what anyone else thinks.

I wish they would make crossbow only season start in October and make compound bow start with rifle season. It gets old seeing grown men cry about what another man does when it has zero influence on that person. If someone wants to shoot a crossbow, shoot one. If someone wants to shoot a compound bow, shoot one. I've got both and do both. If you've never done both there's no way you have the experience to make an accurate observation.

Right on Rilesrick. I'm a recurve only Hunter since 2003. I have many crossbow buddies and we have a blast chasing deer. The compound guys that hate are ridiculous with their " killing with a bow is more of a challenge." Then they brag about their 60 yard groups later on. Comical.

Dead on. Last year was my first time and I got a big doe and a nice 8. Was absolutely more fun than rifle hunting.
It may actually just be the gateway for me to compound bow hunting. I'll see how it goes this year.

To me, a crossbow is just a turned down gun. I see no issue with someone using it, but I also wouldn't have an issue with it being allowed only during primitive.
Here's a thought though: why does anyone else give a frick what another guy hunts with? That is extremely petty. It's not a damn competition. If the guy wants to hunt with a crossbow in bow season, and it's legal, GET OVER IT!

I always get a big chuckle at the righteous indignation from "bow hunters" as it relates to crossbow hunters. How dare they hunt with a crossbow?!?! On public land at that!!!!! It's nothing more than a gun with a string! They should be shooting an 80% let off, 80 pound pull, 350 fps, carbon fiber arrow, mechanical broadhead, stabilizer, whisker biskit, double cammed, fiber optic sighted compound bow! That's what they used in the olden days!!! Damn crossbow hunters. Rabble, rabble, rabble.
