This morning checking traps I could see footprints walking up to trap and found a yote turd 3 foot from pan.
Must be a scent post set? When they do that to me I scrap the scent post and make a dirt hole set with some ground up muskrat in the hole. They won't leave before they try to dig it up. It is called sweet meat predator bait.

I actually need to give credit for that one. It's not mine. A buddy posted it on fb this morning.

Cook lots of bacon
soak up bacon grease w/ sponges
put pieces of bacon sponge all around the property
coyote eats sponge
cant digets sponge
kills coyote
They won't go in a trap and unless you're very knowledgeable you won't get 'em in a foot trap. Snares would be the easiest.
You can put some timic on that carcass and that'll do it to, I hear. Seriiously, I've never done that but heard they'll eat it/die.

I would put this in my house for the laughs

Nice double, im jealous. Im trying to be good with only 1 predator set out right now. Dozen beaver/otter and a dozen dp right now. I've planning on really hitting it hard soon but taking on someone to mentor means im following KISS protocol right now.

SNARES
Check for local coyote pens around your area. Call them and ask them how much they give for live coyotes.
Use any left over guts/meat from a kill. We used this big boar hog as coyote bait. Dead Piggy Leave it a couple days and coyotes will make trails to the kill. Then put snares on the trails that they make. They sell for somewhere around 140$/piece.
This is the only way to catch a bunch at one time but you can catch 2 or 3 a day for a month and the numbers will add up. Trapping is one of the funniest things I do I wish I had more time to do it. There are several good sites that you can get all the information you need to catch them. Trapperman.com is a good one.

Yotes are smart
No kidding. 2 nights ago it was crystal clear and a super bright moon. I was primed and ready to do work on the coyotes out here. They've been getting real brazen lately.
Those suckers didn't come out until 3am after clouds rolled in and took away my good moonlight. I was only able to get 2 shots off into their general direction.
I guess I'm going to have to put the cash down for a night vision scope. I've seen some night vision converters that you attach to the end of your rifle scope for under $500, has anyone got one of those?
We've got some raccoon and beaver traps set right now and my neighbor is pretty good at setting snares but he says dogs get into them as well and I know mine would be caught up in them within 2 hours. I'm thinking I may have to just set up in a blind and call em in. We gotta do something before the next calving season, they've been harrassing the cattle and horses a little more I care for.

Re: hog traps. Must have a top on it. Yotes will climb out. Here's a yote running off with one of my rabbits that he got from a pen in my back yard...he climbed over a 5' high chain link fence to get to the pen.

I just got my traps out to start setting tomorrow so if you decide to go with footholds or snares I can snap some pics of a couple sets to help you.
please do this angus...
I called in my first coyotes [3] last weekend.
I have a rabbit squeal made out of a deer horn with a reed stuck in it. watched on utube to learn how to call them.

I love hunting them too. Haven't had much time recently though. I prefer mouth calls to electronic but thats just preference i guess. I set out 15 this morning and when i have a few more minutes will post some pics.
