I think I've found a replacement engine for the one I blew up over the weekend. Currently have a Mercury 150. I've located a used Yamaha 150 for a good price, but the Yamaha is still on the seller's boat.

If I bring it to a shop to remove the Yamaha engine, controls and gauges on his boat and replace all the Mercury stuff on mine, what am I looking at cost-wise?

I'm calling around this am to shops, but want an idea of what to look for. Thanks OB.

Tough call.

Shop time is usually around $100/hr.

Based on that, I'd believe you're in the ballpark of $1000.

Center console or side?

I would also include the cost of changing the shifter and the throttle cable while you at it.

You can also cut cost by offering the old motor to the person change out the outboard.

Yep. the shifter on the donor boat is a side shifter. I'd need a binnacle shifter.

I had considered this.

Saw 'em.

Blew a Johnson before, looked very similar.

Many adult beverages were consumed afterwards.

For your sake, I hope it last a long time. For board entertainment, I hope it blows up a week after you get it installed...

Impossible.

I'd say you're looking at about $8-1200 in labor.

Just talked to a shop. He figured $500 but probably just to lure me in.

Redmond's in LAF per recommendation of Bourgs. I actually met the owner at a CCA STAR banquet before. Nice guy.

He's got a good shop, it'll probably roundabout what he estimates.
