A few days ago a friend of mine posted a photo of a dead copperhead on facebook with the following: "This snake just bit me. What is it?"

He was in the hospital a couple of days with a swollen hand and some pain. Apparently it was on a shelf in a shed and he reached in to get something without looking.

Do they even get that big? I thought max length was just under 4'.

ETA: quick search on the internet shows the max length at 52". So they either have a world record copperhead or they overestimated.

I wondered about the length myself when I read the artucle and posted the link. Without a tale of the tape and obligatory boot in the pic, we'll never know. Obviously not OB readers.

Length is always exaggerated.

If you're going to get bit by a venomous snake, a Copperhead is your safest bet.

You're right about that. Obviously no one wants to find out just how bad it will be.

O-T Lounge has a thread about this. What do those frickers know about snakes?

911Moto has made it clear that it was a "venomous" snake. I'll check on the victims name.
