We've beat the .270 vs 30.06 to death. I like a bigger caliber because to the "shock and awe"

Between myself uncles and FIL we've killed deer with everything from a sharp pointy stick to a .06. My FIL uses a remmington semi auto in .06. I forget what model it is but its old as dirt. He doesnt even use gun oil on it, uses wd-40. Rifle still functions fine, no rust and he rarely needs more than a single shot. Probably wont find a semi auto rifle for a couple months at a decent price. If you have the money Id look at some of the browning a bolts. Some of the newer xbolts have my attention but to tell you the truth Ive been wanting to custom build a .308 on an ar platform for a while now. Market rifles are uncomfortable for me to shoot and I end up having to add extra but stock pads to get a proper fit.

I mean I suppose that the special camo pattern looks fine but you cannot tell me that a Tikka looks as nice as a Xbolt. Even from online pictures you can see the quality difference. The composite stocks are world's apart and the wood furniture are even further apart.

.325 MOA from your hunting rifle and you aren't even a great shot? What are your load numbers? What glass?

130 grain combined technology bullet (270)
58 grains of Vihtavuori
Swarovski

I have a browning a bolt and a remmington 700, and if I could only keep one rifle there is no doubt I would keep the tikka

It sounds like a proven rifle and no reason not to keep it. I just prefer both quality and performance.

My Xbolt leaves the safe more than my 700, Abolt, Savage POS, and BAR (too damn heavy).

I realize they are owned by the same company but to me the fit and finish are superior in the Browning line and in many cases there is a minimal price differential. Don't get me wrong, the Model 70 Win is a great historic sporting rifle. But when comparing innovation in the past 30 years Browning is way ahead IMHO.

My next rifle will be a Kimber. I have one in .204 and I love it.

Choirboy has the Kimber Montana and really likes it.

Best entry level is Savage Axis at near $300+, add say a 3x9x40 Bushnell Elite scope at near $200 in whatever caliber you like. Popular deer loads are 30 06, 270, 7MM 08 (280 approx) and bring home the venison.
