There are no cons. Better mileage, and better on your engine. While you are at it, block the EGR or delete it. frick the EPA and their emissions BS. They want to stop a little smoke, but they force you to use much more fuel with their fuel robbing emissions garbage.

My dad's 2007 6.7 is the same way. Freaking dually getting better MPG than my 3/4 ton.

I have a 2011 and did a dpf and egr delete with a sct tune. Had some issues with programming at first but got it fix and have no problems at all. I run the street prog what I think is the closest to stock. The only downfall I have found is it takes a while(20min+) to switch between towing and street programs

Thought most of these tuners can switch on the fly...?

H&S is the only tuner that has shift on the fly for 6.7. They are about $1800, mcc code is $300, plus custom tunes.

Spartan might be shift on the fly, but eat 6 speed trannys all day.

Mine was not, and my transmission was about the only thing that didn't break

My old man has the h&s on his truck. I find his tunes are much "cleaner". I would definitely go with h&s next time. Every now and then my shifts a little rough. I bought everything from Rudys diesel. They were very helpful and had free shipping

Completely different trans. It was the tuning that ate them up. I have zero experience, but that's all I've heard about Spartan and 6.7.

The H&S tuner with Gearhead tunes is the bees knees. Just not in my price range. If I were tuning a brand new truck, yes.

Speaking of H&S and trans, whatever happened with them trying to blow up a 6.7 on a dyno? They sprayed the hell out of it and made almost 900hp before the tranny slipped. They were supposed to build the tranny then do it again but I never heard anymore.

I heard the tranny went, then, if I remember correctly, they had serious fuel issues. Finally got those resolved and quickly threw several rods. This is all from bad memory though.

There are definitely cons.

Warranty voided, potential issues with DOT, potential early expensive failure, service issues, black smoke

Exhaust Aftertreatment is a good thing not matter how much you hate it. It allows for very good fuel economy and exponentially lower pollution out the tailpipe. It costs more to own and operate a diesel now. It's just part of it.

I personally would not modify an engine that has SCR, especially one made in the past year or two. It isn't worth it IMO. If you're having issues with EGR coolers plugging or DPFs plugging, you're probably not running it like it needs to be ran and probably would be better off with a gasser.

An engine that only has EGR and a DPF with no aftertreatment is a different story. Those are generally shorter life engines made to bridge the gap between emission tiers.

Check out this site chadboy. Lots of folks use them for the 7.3 like I have.

You might want to go to the ford truck enthusiast forum and do some reading. They have a forum dedicated to each model.

Sct tuners and others do come with stock canned tunes. They aren't bad, but aren't great. The same tuner can tune 100 different engines or you can get custom tunes for your exact motor, gear ratio, etc.

your 06 duramax didn't have a DPF to begin with...DPF's on the DMax didn't start until 2007.5

maybe you did an EGR delete?
