For me personally, I didn't notice much difference between my 22 & 27 with the extended mags.
But I'm not arguing your point.

I was 25 with no real handgun experience when I decided to get a chp. Did research and visited various gun stores in Baton Rouge and settled on a glock 26 for carry bought from Hebert's guns. Bought a comptac c.t.a.c. holster for iwb carry and a smartcarry holster for carrying in business formal/casual situations. Did the class with precision firearms. Still using both holsters and carrying same gun 5 years later.

Concealed carry classes were discussed some time ago on the outdoor board and I bookmarked it. Here is the link:

Yeah I got a mag extension for my 26 which does make it nicer. If it was going to be exclusively on my waist, I would probably consider the 19. But if op isn't a tard, a glock 26 is plenty easy to learn to shoot and carry. Buying a cc gun has different priorities than a range gun.

Point being, they will feel much more confident after learning on a bigger gun, and learn the mechanics of shooting by doing so
Smaller guns kick more, and new shooters focus more on that then proper technique. Very bad

I bought a Beretta Nano for concealed carry, and I love it. I don't know if I'd recommend it as a beginner's gun, though.

Good point. I can see this.

I strongly suggest finding a friend who has a few guns and a place to shoot.
There are a whole lot of things you need to know about guns before you start sticking one in your waistband.
There are links to several threads in one of the stickies on the OB that will give you more information than you could possibly digest in one sitting on guns in general as well as CCPs and the legalities and responsibilities of having one.
I strongly suggest going to a range and renting some guns as well as getting some training on firearm safety and proper shooting form before you buy a gun. Everybody likes something different and it's going to be difficult for somebody with limited experience to buy a gun that they'll like long-term.

Papa, I had no experience with handguns, so I took an introductory NRA course. Stayed afterward and shot about 8 of the instructors guns. Helped to dispell some falsehoods while supporting some truths about certain guns/calibers.
I always recommend the S&W 442/642 .38 special. Just point and shoot every time.
Most will try to sell you on a semi for first hand/CC use. I just don't see why a novice shooter would want to deal with the extra considerations of that platform for a self-defense gun.

never thought about it much, but I tend to agree with this...the simplicity of a revolver really would help a beginner to become comfortable with the weapon a lot more quickly...

I absolutely hate snubby revolvers. Can't control them worth a damn. Part of that is because my hands are so wide though(5"). I don't like shooting any small guns because my ring and pinky fingers normally hang off the bottom of the grip
Like we have been saying though, it is all about personal feel

I'm not crazy about them either. I'd definitely shoot one before I bought one. It's infinitely easier to operate than a small semi though.

Check out geauxshooting.com....will give you all the info you need. Cool guy, very knowledgeable, same class you will get anywhere else...just cheaper and shorter! He won't bore you with those bullshite incidences that will NEVER happen. He will teach you everything you need to know about CWC. And also teach you about Real Life gun carry. Not none of the make believe stuff you see on TV. on wanting to become a CW carrier. But if you don't even own a gun yet, I think you should but this to the side for a little while until you can handle a gun with comfort first. Would want you to shoot your ===) off! (Cheddar Bob!)

I'm 6'2 and have reasonably sized hands and have absolutely no problem gripping a snubbie.
They are not long-range weapons--made for up close self-defense, which is what the OP is looking for.
I presently own a Taurus 85UL .38 for self-defense.
Fits wonderfully in my hand and is accurate enough at self-defense (close) range.
Just ask my wife, who has become pretty damn proficient.

Leaving Precisions now. Joel and the staff were really helpful. Shot 50rounds with a Glock 19. Gun felt great.
I'm not really interested in having it strapped on me at all times. I didn't know the law permits one to carry their firearm in their vehicle without a cc. I definitely understand you guys advice a lot more after holding it.

OP-
I just renewed my CCP for the 5th time yesterday. I also go to the range weekly. If you're in the market for a gun and want info, you can gladly get some ammo and tag along with me one day. you can shoot any of my handguns you like, and i'll be happy to give you any info you need for safety and ccp classes. I'm always up for volunteering some of my time for a new shooter - I personally would love for ALL Law abiding responsible adults to carry.

Your vehicles are an extension of your home. Anyone can keep a gun in their vehicle. If you get pulled over by Johnny Law, then you just have to tell them. If you don't and they find it, won't be easy to just leave.

Good. The G19 is one of the most popular CC weapons out there for a good reason. I would make sure to try a revolver as well as a few other semi autos before making a purchase though. Take a class or something and welcome to the great world of shooting
You just picked up an expensive hobby BTW. Be ready to spend some money
