I don't recall my post saying anything about purchase, hot shot
maybe you should learn to read.

So you want to require a permit to purchase a firearm?
You notice the "?" punctuation? That means I was asking a question.
You said this:
quote:
Everyone that is going to conceal carry goes to a fundamental gun safety course
Followed up with:
quote:
No permit that "allows" you to carry, just a class to teach you a little safety.
So I was asking the question so where does the "permit" or having to take the class come in at? You said that you will require it but not for carrying concealed. So for buying a gun? Seems like a fair question.
Oh and by the way I don't know if I have ever heard a pro-rights person say that they don't think everyone should get training.

The sheriffs' association position is that if today, they find an 18-28 year old carrying a handgun in his waistband at 2:00 a.m. with no permit, he's probably up to no good. And he's violating a state law. He can be arrested. LEO's don't have to wait until he has robbed a liquor store or raped your wife.
Wow, talk about fear mongering.

Removing that statute, in the name of "constitutional carry" (which Louisiana already has by virtue of our open carry posture), means cops have an excuse to go swinging their dick around because something may happen and we are all to happy to give away our freedoms in the name of "safety".
There is no logical reason to be against free concealed carry.

I feel there are some idiot fricktards in the world and I'm a little frightened of them having guns.
Do your feelings towards these individuals change reality? Do your feelings change the fact that most of these supposed "idiots" have clean records and could pass a CC course anyway?
The thing is, you shouldn't care. Unless it directly affects you or your loved ones, you shouldn't care.
Do I care what God someone prays to? Do I care who someone chooses to sleep with? Do I care if someone I don't even know exists makes a mistake? Do I care if someone says something offensive to me?
In a truly free society this all just doesn't matter. Let people be free and live your own life not worried about what other people do.

I think the point they're trying to make is that these folks you mentioned will carry regardless of the law. I've got a friend that's NOPD and he says gun crime prosecutions in that area are a joke.

These are criminals. I don't support them either, just like almost everyone else on this board.
We all want the same thing (a safer society) but just disagree on the process of how to get there.

This. Also, the people they are worried about carrying lawfully without a required CCL can go out and get a CCL! Literally, it will not change a persons ability to carry, it is just something to get rid of the bullshite that shouldn't be there in the first place.

How far do we go then? Should we let everybody have automatic weapons? What about AT4s?
If you can afford it.

I don't have much hope for this amendment if the people here can't agree that it's a good thing.

Once again, we aren't saying it's bad. We just have questions. Questions seem to indicate something other than just having questions.

I think I'm thinking of a different type of idiot than you are.

We also have other states that have passed constitutional carry and not much changes. It is pretty much just like when they required permits.

That reminds me of the TX open carry scare. Is that dying down or are people still going apeshit?

Those of you with questions (or are outright against the bill) would do well to do a little research into Louisiana's history with respect to concealed (and open) carry of firearms. I'd suggest State v. Chandler (1850) as a good start, a period when concealed carry was outright prohibited and open carry was normal. Some of you protesting this bill have also failed to show where these laws have been detrimental in the seven states that currently have Constitutional carry. Vermont? Arkansas? Can't seem to remember any blood flowing in the streets recently. Like Texas open carry law that went into effect recently, much ado over nothing.

I think Texas passed a concealed carry law. So they are able to carry concealed now.

They've always had CC. They recently passe OC w/o a required permit and people we losing their damn minds over it.
Posted on 2/11/16 at 3:17 pm to civiltiger07
They passed permitted open carry more recently, which went into effect last month. Apparently, despite the assurances of those against the law, there was nothing newsworthy to report. LEA's reported almost nothing in terms of calls from "alarmed" bystanders of people open carrying. No shootouts in the street, no spooked police officers, nothing.

This by itself is impossible to refute.

ah I knew they just changed something with their laws.

Unless they are breaking the law, what you think of them does not matter in the slightest.
