I have a Dan Wesson Specialist in 9mm. The gun is way more accurate than I will ever be with it. I also have a Springfield and Sig Sauer 1911 and their is no comparison, but the price isn't either.

Of the guns you mentioned, I have 1911's made by Metro Arms (American Classic 4.25" Commander) and Armscor (Citadel 3.5" Officer model). Armscor also makes Rock Island Arms handguns. I've been very happy w/ both of mine. Metro Arms and Armscor are all made in the Philippians but are well respected entry level 1911's. They don't have the reputation of Ruger and others, but they're also less expensive; they're good, solid guns. Unfortunately, neither maker has a lightweight model at this time. If I were getting a 9 mm 1911, I'd want a lightweight model. For me, that'd tip the balance to Ruger. Metro Arms is supposed to have a lightweight Commander next yr, but we all know how future models don't always make it to the market. I never really worried about bushing vs bushing less models.

Metro Arms Bob Cut is a model w/ the "bobtail," but they only make it in 45 ACP.

Keep us updated.

pay the extra and get a Dan Wesson Guardian. novak tritium sights, bobbed frame, aluminum mainspring housing, low profile grips, no MIM parts, standard bushing, exceptional fit and finish.

can be had for 1300/1400. worth it

I sure don't. Bowie had one that was stolen in the break-in a year ago, and it was amazing. Dan Wesson is distributed by Lipsey's, so most local shops should be able to get their paws on one with relative ease

Would it be a high crime to cut holes in that trigger?

I'm not a fab of the solid trigger either, just get a skeletonized and have a gunsmith put it in

I assume that's a SHOT show release?

Yes, but when I search it, some stores seem to have it. I've already emailed VZ about a grip for it

My next toy will be a black DW V-Bob with exotic grips. Something like this:

The Springfield bobtail that you posted will be great for less money, though. It's specifically built for the 9mm cartridge, which I really like about it.

My dad has the EMP 4" lightweight champion and I enjoy shooting it a lot.

I know it's a carry gun, but I wish it had a little longer barrel. No, I can't defend it or explain why.

4.25" is great for carry. I'll always like 5" better overall, though, and will always have at least one full size 1911.

I should just ignore that lack of 1/4", right?

I hate to ask the obvious question - but have you considered a Browning Hi Power?

Yeah. Over time I've gone 1911 to Hi-Power to CZ back to 1911

Have you considered a Sig P226 or P229?

Field strips in less than 1 minute with no tools.

No interest in Sig at all. You would shite on my reasons, so I won't list them. Field stripping is way down my list of concerns.

Sorry - on the EMP - correct. I was thinking about the DW. I also wish the EMP was a true commander but I can say that I really enjoy my dad's. The 4" barrel on that gun has never bothered me in the least. I've shot it a good bit.
