It's definitely replacement grips. It doesn't bother me though. I may even put crimson trace grips on mine.

The one that doc is looking at appears to have replacement grips. Just an FYI - does that bother anyone other than a purist?
Wouldn't bother me. I actually like the new model's diamond-checkered grips over the originals and am considering getting a set.

CD you're the one that tipped me off to the difference in the two. I almost want to just buy a new one since it WILL have a box and papers, etc. The one you linked the other day is in immaculate shape but $1100 is too strong in my opinion.

Thanks for all the great info. I just purchased a new colt 1911 Rail gun in .22 lr. Part of the reason is that I want to teach my daughters to shoot and this should be a great plinker gun. Anyway, thanks to all for your help and advice. I am happy with the purchase because its a bad arse little gun with cheaper ammo. And we will go through a lot of ammo. Hope all is well with y'all. Bet that Delta Elite is the shite.....

Check out VZ Grips. They simply cannot be beat when it comes to grips.
And once you feel the 22, you're gonna wanna step up to the man gun. A 1911 in 45 is a must in any gun collection.

Ruger commander 1911 is seriously encroaching on my dead-set SP101 next handgun purchase
